I love Dr. Balan. She is excellent! I found her to be friendly and thorough. She was monitoring my thyroid, which is goiter-y with bumps. However, her office, Greensboro Medical Associates, is horrible! I don't know why she decided to move here from Eagle. I've had experience with the office since my father was a patient of another doctor there. Office staff are sometimes rude and usually unprofessional. They are rarely accommodating. I can only guess that they are underpaid and overworked. They act like they'd rather not be bothered. Whoever handles accounts, the business manager perhaps, must have been in collections before. The office made a mistake in filing insurance on one of my visits, and I tried to work with them and insurance for over a year to get it worked out. Insurance wouldn't pay because the office made an error with my user ID the first time, and when they refiled, the time had elapsed in which the insurance would accept the claim. A long time had passed. The office person often said it was my fault for giving them the wrong number, when they have years of copies of my insurance card with the ID clearly on it. They'd also often told me to contact the insurance company, which I did, and they'd send me right back to the practice. In any case, I finally insisted on speaking face-to-face with the manager when they denied me the right to see Dr. Balan until I paid the balance, which was a lot of money to me. The manager manipulated the talk around to make it seem as if I was unreasonable. "If I let the charge go for you, I'd have to for everybody", etc. And I was too tired and frazzled to think of a coherent reply. I tried one more time with the insurance company, but there was nothing that they could do since it was the practice's error. Long story short, the practice would not take responsibility for the error and absorb the $100 loss. I paid the bill, which was a lot of money to me. I'm no longer using the business because of their practices, even though I will miss Dr. Balan.

I am giving Dr. Balan a poor score based on her inability to treat my hypothyroid following a thyroidectomy. After 7 months of low thyroid levels I switched to an integrative doctor who was able to treat my thyroid and get my hormones balanced with Nature Throid. Dr. Balan refused to prescribe anything other than synthetic thyroid medication and is only concerned about TSH which is not a good indicator of thyroid function. She does not listen to her patients and does not like being questioned. Her understanding of thyroid is textbook only. If you are looking for a good thyroid doctor who looks at all symptoms consider Robinhood Integrative Health in Winston. The doctors there are truly wonderful and caring and treat you as human beings.

Dr. Balan is the best MD I know, she snatched me from the jaws of diabetes. She is caring and listens to my concerns. I am an RN and she is one of the best MDs I know, and that I go to as a patient. I would recommend her to all comers!!!!

She saved my life 5 years ago - I was seeing another endocrinologist who missed my thyroid cancer. I would recommend her to everyone.

She controlled my diabetes and took me off all my toxic pills. I am going back to her. She is great!

Dr. Balan is very good. The staff and organization are horrible. Bad communication and impossible to refill prescriptions.

Not impressed. Wishy-washy. Questionable diabetes treatment. Staff is rude. There are much better Endocrinologists in Greensboro.

Dr. Balan was recommended to me by a close friend who is a MD and who knew that my medical education background makes me somewhat critical. Happily, Dr. Balan exceeded my expectations in all areas: knowledge, communications, personal interactions, professionalism. And, she *does* give you the time you need...you don't feel rushed, but you might wait a little longer...it's worth it! Although the practice's phone system is miserable, the front staff can be 'iffy' and there is a lot of physician turn-over, nonetheless Dr. Balan is definitely the endocrinologist to see!

Dr. Balan has been the best by far Endocrinologist. Her knowledge of my condition has made treatment with her easy to understand. She always takes the time to answer all your questions and concerns.
