World Cancer Day: Here’s How You Can Take Action

Create a poster using the online template, host an event or translate promotional materials–it all helps.

Tuesday, February 4th is World Cancer Day. What can you do to make a difference and help those who are struggling? Many things.

According to the Union for International Cancer Control, (UICC) the day aims to raise awareness about cancer as a whole and in turn, help save lives. As a caring participant you can help do this by going online and taking part in campaigns. You can create your own poster sporting a customized message and image. You can also encourage your local politicians to light up a local building or monument in orange and blue on February 4th, to show your support. And for those who are multilingual, why not try your hand at translating World Cancer Day campaign material?

You can also help spread the word by downloading the World Cancer Day Action Tool Kit. This has resources for promoting the day of awareness in your workplace and at school. It also has ideas on how to spread the message through blog posts, video messages and more. And if you are interested in  hosting your own World Cancer Day event, there is also a toolkit online to help with that.

According to UICC, 9.6 million people die from cancer every year. At least one third of all common cases of cancer are preventable, yet still, it remains the second leading cause of death worldwide.

This number of deaths is expected to double by 2030.

Strikingly, the annual economic cost of cancer is an estimated US$1.16 trillion.
