Think medicinal marijuana is no joke? Whoopi Goldberg may make you laugh, but she’s with you on that one.
The award-winning comedian has announced that she is partnering with edibles maker Maya Elisabeth in the founding of “Whoopi & Maya”, a company making a new line of medical marijuana products designed specifically for women.
Goldberg is lending her fame, name and financial backing to the project which supports products that aim to help women alleviate the pain of menstrual cramps.
Products to be sold include a balm, a tincture, sipping chocolate, and a bath soak, all infused with marijuana to promote relaxation and limit period cramps and aches.
Is it a serious venture? You bet. “I want to go nice and slow with this,” Goldberg told USA TODAY. “I don’t want this to be a joke to people. It’s not a joke to women.”
Because the sale and use of marijuana remains illegal at the federal level in the U.S, Whoopi & Maya products will be sold in a limited way and will only be made available for purchase in California to people with their medical marijuana cards.
“This is a nice quiet way that I can be part of this,” said Goldberg, whose own nieces suffer from extreme menstrual cramps. “It had to help people if I were going to be involved.”
And help it will, Whoopi.
