Is Your Neck Too Weak?

It isn’t something most of us lie in bed at night losing sleep over: a strong neck.

For those who suffer from neck pain though, it could be that it’s never far from your thoughts. Well, at least the pain, that is.

It’s so easy to sleep in an odd position and feel it the next day. That aching feeling takes a while to subside. You can’t turn your head properly, and feel stiff, sometimes for days, afterwards.

Can hitting the gym really do any good? When it comes to prevention, yes. Good health is always a great protective measure. But it isn’t the final answer- even those with a neck of steel can still incur an injury.

According to the Mayo Clinic, neck pain can be caused by a number of factors.

Muscle strains from grinding your teeth or hunching over a computer or book can set it off. Osteoarthritis can cause the cartilage between your neck bones to deteriorate, resulting in painful movements.

Or, you might be suffering from an illness that causes neck pain, or have a compressed nerve that’s aggravated with each move.

Takes steps to improve things. Consult with your doctor, and install lifestyle changes. Stretch daily and maintain good posture, as much as you can. Adjust your desk or computer so that they’re at an appropriate level. And avoid carrying heavy bags on your shoulders.

If your pain persists, consult your doctor and see a chiropractor or massage therapist who can help you heal.
