Finnish food technology start-up Gold & Green Foods’ flagship product ‘pulled oats’ is the closest substitute to meat on the market. It looks and tastes just like the real thing, but Gold & Green Foods believe the key to their meat substitute is their use of oats.
They decided to use that medium as the company discovered there’s virtually no downside to oats: they’re ecological, and aren’t allergic to anyone. Adding beans to the ‘pulled oats’ recipe brings it all together, supplying essentials like amino acids that are lacking oats.
Protein-packed substitutes are widely embraced, though nutritionists see the added value pulled oats could have over food made from just wheat, soy and other beans. Find out why in the Reuters report below.
