My son has been seeing seeing Dr. Carreras for 1 year. He was diagnosed with severe eczema and food allergies and because of his diagnoses we visited with her often (up to 3 visits a month). She eventually referred us to a dermatologist and allergist (the best decision she's made in the entire year we saw her). Since then, we now visit with his specialist a lot more and less of Dr. Carreras. Well, one afternoon he had an allergic reaction so i took him in and she gave him an "allergy shot" without explaining what the shot was and the side effects. She also prescribed him steroids to help the itching or so she said it was suppose to help. We went home that night and gave him the steroids for 5 days. He had a REALLY bad reaction to the medicine so we rushed him to Children's Hospital where he was hospitalized for 4 days. His specialist came to visit with him and explained that steroids are AWFUL for babies and they would NEVER prescribe them to any of their patience. They also said, the "allergy shot" she gave him was ALSO steroids. I informed them of her prescribing the steroids more then 3 times in the last 9 months. They were horrified and offered in helping me find a new pediatrician. We we're at the hospital because of her quick actions when she should have probably spoke with his specialist first to see what they agree on (lack of communication).

I have since found another pediatrician and I hope my son's story has explained how unacknowledged she is to the medical field.

If you don't have a choice but to stick with her (because of insurance) I would definitely make sure you ask questions and do NOT let her decide things you as a parent should. She can be pushy when she wants something done her way (sarcastic attitude) so my advice is to let her know, your the parent you make the last decision.
