Dr Sheng Ping Lin is a conceited immature "I think I know it all" weirdo, he claims to be patient and caring and blames everything on the staff training, but now that he has his own clinic, I see no difference in his attitude. Unfortunately I had no other choice at the time, if this darn city actually had enough physicians that would readily accept new patients I would strongly advice everyone not to come here. Rather go to a Walk In Clinic, which is what I do now til another doctor (a good one) comes along.

overall he is good, waiting time is a bit long - 20 -30 mins. maybe he is too much details to patients and i think he is knowlegable. one thing i dont like - every request he is charging - is that right under the BC physican society, I may really want to check it out if time allows me to do so.

My wife and I recently admitted to Dr Lin's new Burnaby clinic near Metrotown. We were impressed with Dr Lin's thorough initial interview with us. He showed genuine interest with his new patients. A week later, I found an abnormal lump and went to see Dr Lin. He immediately referred me for an ultrasound and a specialist nearby. I had a tumour cancer removal surgery last week and Dr Lin called me a couple times just to see how I was. I really appreciate him taking the effort to follow up given the enormous amount of work for a new clinic.

I booked to see my own doctor for prenatal visit, for some reason Dr Lin's MOA booked my visit with him. My husband and I had to take time off work to come to the visit. Dr Lin was very inpatient and kept asking us to see our own doctor. We had many questions because it was our second prenatal visit, but he was very impatient. At the end of the visit, he asked us to follow up with our own doctor after the detail ultrasound. We did exactly what he instructed then found out that we supposed to follow up every 4 weeks rather than waiting for 9 weeks to follow up. We were very disappointed. The man have no idea how much hassle for us to take time off work to see a doctor.

Dr. Sheng Ping Billy Lin's response
Dear Patient,
Thank you for leaving your candid feedback. I remember this incident happening in mid September of this year in Elicare clinic. I remember that we were both frustrated that you weren't booked with your own doctor who was working that same week, and was booked with me by mistake by the Elicare staff. I believe it was an honest mistake made by the staff, but since they weren't selected, trained, or paid by me, I could not address this mistake directly.

I do wish to apologize if my frustration towards the clinic came across during our encounter. I ordered the time sensitive tests for your pregnancy at that stage including ultrasound and genetic screening tests, and asked you to rebook and follow up with your doctor who is providing prenatal care. I don't remember asking you to wait that long before seeing your doctor, but it is possible that our communication was negatively affected by our frustration, and I'm very sorry about that.

It is incidents like this that made it a priority for me to open my own clinic and train my own staff. I can now take responsibility for ensuring they work at a standard that's appropriate for a medical office, and ensure mistakes like over-booking or erroneous booking do not happen in the first place.

Thank you again for your critique. I will take it to heart and work on becoming the best doctor I can be.

Dr. Billy Lin has the worst bedside manner I have ever encountered in any medical professional. I have been struggling to find a family doctor in the lower mainland because no one accepts new patients anymore so when I found out that he was accepting new patients, I booked an appointment with him right away. I waited for a couple of hours (I am not exaggerating) and was seen for 5 min for my initial appointment. He spent the whole time looking at the computer monitor as I was speaking to him and was extremely condescending and dismissive during our 5 min encounter. He is a relatively new doctor so I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and I went back to see him again for a follow up appointment. I had to sit in the waiting room for over an hour and I realized the clinic was booking patients 5 min apart. He has absolutely no consideration for his patient’s time. I had to book time off work to see him and he didn’t even know why I was there even though he was the one who told me to come back for a follow up appointment. He claims on his personal website that he strives to broaden his medical knowledge, and to be compassionate and caring towards his patients. Instead of just talking about it, maybe he should start learning how to demonstrate his core values. He needs to realize I am not there to see him read off his computer monitor. If I wanted a robot to diagnose my medical problems, I would have just checked webmd and not wasted my time going all the way to his clinic. He has a new clinic now (by Metrotown) and unless you are truly desperate, I would just stick with a walk in doctor for now.

Dr. Sheng Ping Billy Lin's response
Hello, thank you for your feedback. I'm truly sorry you felt mistreated. It sounds like you met me in my previous place of employment which unfortunately was not run by me. I have complained to management numerous times that they are overbooking patients (I asked for 4-5 patients an hour and they sometimes booked more than 8), and on several occasions the power or internet would break down causing major delays. The support staff have also called patient in for "lab reviews" for labs that weren't even there yet, which had caused some confusion and frustration. In situations where I was very behind, I may have been more rushed than I'd like to be and more focused on getting your information down on the Electronic Medical Record to avoid delaying any further. For that, I must apologize. I have given my feedback to that clinic and I believe they are working on improving their workflow as well.

Now that I opened my own clinic, I take full control of my scheduling and staff training. I am very respectful of my patients' time, and I am happy to say that I have seen almost every patient within 10 minutes of their appointment. We also designed the exam room so that I'm closer to the patient and the computer can be easily moved out of the way as needed, but I will keep your feedback in mind especially when I feel rushed for the sake of keeping on time for the next patient.

I do strive to put patients first, which is one of the reasons why I decided to open and run a clinic that I fully control. To ensure continuity of care, I paid the old clinic for a transfer-notice to be sent to all of my previous patients, and inform them how they can find me. To account for the labor of transferring charts, I am currently booking patients 20 minutes apart.

Once again, thank you for your feedback. If you have unresolved concerns, I'd love to discuss it with you in our new clinic.
