I've come to this hospital 3times in last 2week. Triage nurses think they are gods gift to earth.1queistion they are is why am here, I should see family Dr. Well last time I checked it is a hospital, not bar if I had a family Dr I would go there. The nurses have no compassion. If you don't have compassion it's time to leave. You are not helping by being therewhen some one goes to.the hospital that mean they require amidate assistance. You are working in place where people come to feel better not get more sicker. You are there to help then not look down at them for being there. I understand it's high demand job. You can't take the pressure get out.burnaby is a vibrent community, you are giving a bad name.
This hospital needs a major renovations. My mom is stuck in a room by a window in the winter time in an emergency room now going on 3rd day. It’s freaking cold in here. My mom had to put 5 blankets and I sat by my mom’s side in a parka, scarf, toque and 2 blankets. No bed for my mom in a ward and so people have come and gone, and she’s still waiting her turn. No one seems to know when she’s going to be moved in a warmer area or into a room and it’s dead in the hospital and she was 2 hours late getting her meds. This is the 4th time this year my mom has had to come to Burnaby General and the service gets worse each time. I don’t know where my tax dollars are going but this sucks.
In the last 3 years, I have had to come to Burnaby Emergency more than I would ever want to. My experience has been that the triage nurses are mostly 90% rude and almost act like they don't believe that you are sick. I wonder if they do that on purpose because some people treat Emergency like a walk-in clinic. It can be hard to deal with this attitude when you are really sick and are scared but, in the end, if you are sick you won't leave. 90% of the doctors that have treated me have been awesome and go above and beyond. 10% have been dismissive and if they can't diagnose you easily send you on your way and don't really give further advice. All in all, I appreciate the Burnaby Hospital Staff and all the hard work they do. Please weed out the dudes and keep the doctors and nurses that really care about their patients so I can give a higher rating :)
95 year old, 8 hour wait for hand xray. MD sent details of injury, no one seemed interested in reviewing or seeing information. Nurse told EMT driver was getting IV or UTI (not true as confirmed by blood work), misinformation. Meanwhile other patients projectile vomiting while waiting in hallway (5 hours), family had enough and check there mother out.
After waiting for almost 5 hours for day surgery I was spanked twice. I did not have somebody accompanying me (???) and I was not willing to provide a residential address because I was staying with friends. I had zero clue either was a 'requirement' going in. Both 'interviews' were nearly identical with the precise same questions. Some repeated questions made little sense ... i.e. "so you stay in a shelter then?" and "why didn't you bring someone with you?" Nearing the 5 hour mark I had enough and left. It turned out to be a great thing because the surgery I was scheduled for isn't required. I found out the next day a much preferred and non-invasive procedure is available ... and in a doctor's office. My surgeon either deliberately didn't inform me (a crook) OR he's incompetent. Thankfully he was sooooo late it didn't matter either way. This was my second nightmare at BGH. 2 years ago I was dragged into emergency after a Transit Cop busted my rib, and nearly my spine. THAT was a 16 hour exercise in total and complete hell. The 'people' there were/are uniformly horrid, rude, and uncaring. Avoid BGH because your life might depend on it. Royal Colombian in New West or St Pauls in Vancouver are your much, much better options. More good advice is to educate yourself about your condition and treatment options. Without knowledge these 'professionals' will choose the one that puts the most money into their pockets.
My experience with Burnaby Hospital's ER, and Infusion Site, for more than a year has been a positive one. For two years plus I or members of my family, were treated by different attending doctors but we have gotten appropriate treatment in a clean, professional environment, without excessive wait times. Unfortunately this is not the case with the other two Fraser Health hospitals I have been exposed to for treatment.
