Had bilateral hip replacement performed by Shane. Results are fantastic. 3 1/2 weeks since surgery and already getting around indoors without crutches. So happy with the results. A brilliant surgeon. Would have no hesitation in referring friends or family to Mr Blackmore.

I’d like to provide some feedback regarding my hip replacement surgery carried out by Shane and his team.

I am delighted with my new hip and the progress I have made under Mr Shane Blackmore’s guidance. From my initial meeting with him, I felt relaxed about the procedure and that I was in good hands because of his knowledge and expertise, which I had researched. As well as being a gifted surgeon, in my opinion, Mr Blackmore has a very cordial demeanor and I have felt very comfortable in my dealings with him. I would also like to express my gratitude to Mr Blackmore’s team, Dr Peter Effeney (Anaesthetist), Dr Belinda Smith (Cardiologist and Perioperative Physician) and Dr Tracy Peters (Assisting Surgeon), all of whom displayed great care and attention to my particular needs.

The anterior hip replacement surgery, carried out by Mr Blackmore, was beneficial to me because it is less invasive than the posterior type. It meant that my hospitalisation was kept to a minimum (only 4 days) and I was able to commence walking without the assistance of my crutches after 6 days of my surgery. I was pleased that my leg length match up perfectly and that I do not have a limp (prior to my surgery there was around 1cm difference in the length of my legs because of the deterioration of my hip joint).

In my experience, I could not be happier with, nor speak more highly of, Mr Blackmore and his team and extend my gratitude to them for making my major surgery as comfortable and effective as possible, under the circumstances.

I hope I do not have to have another hip replacement operation but, should I require one, I shall certainly seek the services of Mr Shane Blackmore and his team.

P.S. Emily, you have always been very courteous, helpful and prompt and I have found you very pleasant to deal with.

Thanks Shane for my new knee replacement. When I heard from another patient of yours how quickly they recovered after having you use a Robot to replace their knee I knew that is want I had to do. Especially after my previous experience on the other side.

Despite what you said that the recovery maybe slow I cant believe how quick I was back at work and more importantly playing Golf!

Thanks again mate!

I was recommended to see Shane from a friend who works in the medical industry. She assists surgeons when they use different devices during surgery and has watched 100's of surgeons operate . She described Shane as 'technically excellent' and 'the best' and had sent her own father to see Shane for key hole shoulder surgery.

Shane did my key hole knee operation earlier this year and I couldn't be happier with my outcome. My knee feels normal again despite the tears I had and i'm looking forward to a normal summer without pain.

My whole experience was amazing from the first consultation with Shane where he explained exactly what had happened to my knee and what needed to be done. I couldn't recommend him and his team highly enough and only wish I went to see him sooner rather than putting up with my pain.

Thanks again Shane

Mr. Shane Blackmore might be great at surgery, but this is about it. No empathy, no care, and no alternatives.

I went to Shane after months if shoulder pain with a referral from my GP, an ultrasound, and an MRI. He didn't even bother to open the MRI and try and explain the issue. He took one look at the report and started bullying me into an operation with cheap scare tactics. QUOTE:"If you were 70 i would say let's replace your shoulder"

After trying to discuss implications, and the reason for my pain, his answer is the operation may not solve my issue, but we fix what we find, and I can forget about getting any range of motion back, this operation "might" ease the pain.

Seriously do specialists only csre about their pocket .. where is the oath they took, where is surgery being the last option !!!

PS Do not fill the section about private health insurance in his form, that is how he figures out his plan of attack.

My experience with Dr Shane Blackmore has been nothing but positive and rewarding over two and half years he has replaced both of my knees totally and performed a total reverse right shoulder replacement and to boot removed a very annoying and painful ganglia from my right wrist while performing my last op. His bedside manner is great and his knowledge and skill is the best out of three similar Surgeons and one a lot older who has retired and now a Consultant in his field. Shane is up there with the best Orthopedic Surgeons. Lucky I live in his home state.

Shane operated on my shoulder. Did such an amazing job that I had more use out of it after surgery than I ever had even pre injury. Am soon to go back for my other shoulder to be done.

Shane Blackmore is simply a brilliant surgeon. I travelled from Perth to Melbourne twice to have both hips replaced by Shane, with a 10 week interval between operations. It was well worth the effort. He is caring, diligent, incredibly knowledgeable and experienced and goes out of his way to ensure the whole care experience is positive. He is also a thoroughly lovely person. If you are considering anterior hip replacement, you can't do better than to see Shane, it's life-changing ! :)

Biography

Mr Shane Blackmore specialises in sports injuries, arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the knee, hip and shoulder. This includes all aspects of knee, hip and shoulder surgery. After completing subspecialty fellowship training in London and New York, he returned to Melbourne with world-class experience in the latest arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques including Robotic Joint Replacement. He is one of only a few Australian trained surgeons to have his training accredited by both the Arthroscopic Association of North America (AANA) and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM). Shane is also a member of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy (ISHA) and a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthA). Shane has managed sports injuries in a variety of college and professional athletes, both in London and New York City. The highlight of his training in New York was working as an assistant team physician for the New York Rangers as they made the Stanley Cup final for the first time in 20 years. Shane was one of the first surgeons in Victoria trained and accredited with performing Robotic Joint Surgery. As part of his fellowship in New York, Shane also learned modern hip and knee replacement techniques, including Anterior Hip Replacement. Shane has other surgeons visit him in theatre to observe and learn Robotic Joint Replacement. The New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases is a world leading institution, which rarely awards ACGME accredited Orthopaedic Sports Medicine fellowships to foreign trained surgeons. Shane was matched to this highly competitive 12 month fellowship position. Under the supervision of a number of prominent surgeons, including Dr Laith Jazrawi and Dr Thomas Youm, he completed a high volume of arthroscopic procedures, primarily of the knee, hip and shoulder. These ranged from simple injuries occurring in the home or workplace, to complex injuries in recreational and professional athletes. His subspecialty training focused on the latest arthroscopic techniques for knee ligament reconstruction (ACL), meniscal repair and transplant, cartilage restoration and joint preservation, shoulder stabilization and rotator cuff repair as well as femoro-acetabular impingement and labral tears of the hip. Preceding this, Shane was awarded the prestigious Calvert Fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth in London. During this 6-month fellowship, supervised by Mr Andrew Wallace and Mr Philip Ahrens, he worked alongside some of the UK’s most preeminent sports surgeons. The fellowship had a subspecialty focus on arthroscopic treatment of shoulder and elbow injuries. While in London, Shane also had the privilege of working with Mr Andy Williams, a world-renowned knee ligament surgeon. Born in Melbourne, Shane graduated from University of Melbourne Medical School before completing his specialist Orthopaedic surgical training in Melbourne. Shane has published articles and book chapters, as well as technique videos on many aspects of arthroscopic surgery. Shane continues to teach medical students and future orthopaedic surgeons through his association with the University of Melbourne and his public hospital appointments at Austin Health, where he is the Director of Orthopaedic Training. Married with a young family, Shane continues to chase his childhood pursuits of less than competitive baseball, tennis and golf.
