Biography

Dr. Yatsushiro or Dr. Y as everyone has come to call him, was born and raised in Hawaii. His initial interest in dentistry was piqued at eleven years of age while sitting in the orthodontists chair, thinking what a nice jobworking in an air conditioned office. Little did he know at the time the long pathway he would take to get there and that he would have to leave for the mainland. Although Dr. Y spent his youth mostly surfing and hanging out with friends at the beach, his early interest in biology and dentistry didnt let go of him. He went on to graduate from the University of Hawaii where he graduated with a BA in biology. His dream came true when he was accepted to the dental school at UC San Francisco and then to a general practice residency at the Long Beach VA Hospital in California. Dr. Y went on to practice general dentistry in Southern California for five years. It is during this time that he realized that he enjoyed the challenge of root canal therapy and relieving people of pain more than anything. Dr. Y continued his education at the Oregon Health and Sciences University for his specialty training in endodontics and where he also finally met his true love, Trang. He practiced in Hawaii for two more years as an endodontist before coming back to the Portland area in 1998 to practice with his former instructors and continue teaching at OHSU. He has been a part-time clinical instructor at OHSU and partner at Endodontic Specialty Group ever since. In his spare time Dr. Y loves to spend time with his daughter Kari and wife Trang when he is not fighting algae in his aquarium or tinkering with his Subaru STi. Burble burble
