Lots of “upselling” of expensive supplements. Ok - if they are legit, wel-founded and researched solutions. When recommended I buy Juice +, I wonder if recommendations are founded in monetary gain. Time will tell.

[UPDATE] I wrote a critical review of my experience as a patient of Dr. Trojano a little over ten months ago, but wanted to post a positive update. Since that review, she has reached out to me and provided understandable justification for most of the items in that review. I have stayed on with her as a patient and she has been terrific. I feel significantly better now than I did ten months ago, and this is in part due to her ability to tailor her approach to my particular circumstances. Thank you, Hilary, for your responsiveness and flexibility as a clinician.

I was living with achy joints, intermittent headaches, fatigue and was losing my enthusiasm to solve my health problems. Drugs were not helping much, and one doctor even sent me for counselling as he was sure it was all in my head! I thought that I would live the rest of my life with my symptoms. Then I heard about Dr. Trojano and met with her. My health has improved greatly over the past year and I trust that she and I can get me to where I want to be. I trust her and knowing she will do her best.

I have been a patient of Dr. Trojano for over a year now, and am in the market for a new doctor due to frustrations with the experience. I am writing this review because I felt misled by the positive reviews on this site and wanted to offer a more balanced perspective.

First and foremost, Dr. Trojano is a nice person. If that were the only consideration, this review would be 5/5 stars. She is open to learn and explore new testing methods and treatments, which is essential given the speed with which our scientific understanding of chronic diseases changes. And her online system of scheduling is brilliant – simple and easy to use.

As I got to know her, however, I saw less of a doctor and more of a sharky business woman. In my case, I just needed a specific dose of thyroid medication following a thyroidectomy; I am otherwise healthy. My pharmacy recommended that I ask my doctor for a year-long script. This would save me significant hassle and reduce costs for both me and fellow insurance policy holders. A conscientious doctor would recognize this as best for the patient and insurance community and be happy to help.

Dr. Trojano, however, appeared to see the opportunity to make money. She gave scripts for only 3 months at a time, requiring me to schedule additional appointments. When I asked for scripts in the 6-9 month range, she first agreed and then increased the script to 4 months after the appointment. During appointments, she promoted affiliate companies like Juice Plus, and she required over $4,000 in blood work at regular intervals – directed through her in-clinic draw station – when a few simple thyroid blood tests would have been sufficient.

Perhaps most frustrating of all, her communication was unreliable. I would send a message (email, voicemail, or both) and would not hear back from her for over a week. More than once, I wondered if she had transitioned to a different business and left me hanging.

At first I thought these issues might be one-off experiences, but time showed they were the pattern. In a way, I sympathize with her – holistic medicine is probably not an easy business. At the same time, a doctor’s first responsibility is her patients.
