In September 2021 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The news was unexpected and traumatic to process. My surgeon who was going to remove the cancerous tumor recommended Dr. Liakos as plastic surgeon to perform the reconstruction operation.
With my first visit Dr. Liakos explained to me with the necessary care and patience what the best option would be and suggested the "Diep Flap" procedure which I am forever grateful for.
The seven hour procedure ran smoothly and the after care from Dr. Liakos was amazing and informative to answer all my questions and concerns. As a patient I experienced Dr. Liakos's confident demeanor to bring calmness and trust through this difficult time of my life.

From the first consultation, I knew I was in good hands. Dr. Liakos is very well-versed in his craft and was able to give me the shaping and contouring that I wanted. There’s great attention to detail, professionalism, care and compassion. The process went smoothly leading up to surgery and the care post-operation has been easy-peasy. Dr Liakos is a gentle, reassuring surgeon and has great skill and exercises caution. after major complications with breast reconstruction Dr Liakos has done a wonderful job of reconstructing the breasts using the Atira mesh and prosthesis. They are still not centre fold playboy breasts but I can live with them.

Being in the mental health sector, as a psychologist, I am very mindful of importance of a patient's need to feel trust, respect and a sense of dependability in the medical practitioner that they consult. This is, of course, besides the paramount importance of the doctor's expertise, knowledge and skills as a clinician. When undergoing a mastectomy and possible reconstructive surgery, as in my case, these were crucial issues to me as a patient. I was extremely fortunate that I was referred to Dr. Liakos. He is one of those doctors that engenders a feeling of complete trust and respect.
When I first consulted with Dr. Liakos in 2020, I was emotionally and psychologically in very fragile space, having being diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. He exercised so much patience during the first consult, and subsequent consults to allay all my fears. I am so glad that I listened to his advice and proceeded with the reconstructive surgery, after a radical mastectomy. I was at such a low point, that I was not considering the psychological impact on myself, of not doing the reconstruction. Although to some patients, reconstruction may not be important, to me, in a sense, it allowed me to reclaim some of my dignity that the breast cancer robbed me of.
Dr. Liakos's work, attention to detail and care is impeccable, from start to finish. I saw first-hand his absolute brilliance, post-op. In fact, every single time, I go to a GP, an oncologist, even my cardiologist...in fact, any doctor, they never fail to comment, when examining me, on Dr. Liakos's outstanding work as a reconstructive surgeon, . The surgery was massive and went very well, with no post-op complications. What was so reassuring for me, was his bedside manner...he never rushed my post-op consultations. He set aside enough time to first speak to me, see how I was doing before proceeding to examine the wound. All this was done in a caring, empathic manner- I felt seen and heard, and not as if I was just another patient passing through the practice. I honestly have a tremendous amount of respect for this doctor. I think in the current climate of a dearth of good clinicians and an exodus of specialists to other countries, we need to be so grateful to have an exceptional doctor in this sector.
My visits to this practice for my check-ups during the level 5 lockdown of the covid pandemic were also very reassuring. Stringent care was taken to ensure my safety and that of others, as well as staff.
I unconditionally recommend Dr. Liakos to any patient undergoing any reconstructive procedure, based on the fact that he possesses all the necessary attributes that one seeks in these situations in your doctor.
I want to place on record my heartfelt thanks to Dr. Liakos for making me feel whole and complete again . I pray that he never leaves this country for greener pastures, as the reconstructive medical industry will be the poorer for the loss of someone of his stature.

Dr Laikos is the most amazing and best plastic surgeon in Gauteng . I am a medical doctor and this was my second procedure with him and he is just a perfectionist. He goes out of his way to make sure that he gets the best results possible and he has out done my expectations.
