Terrible, avoid, go to calgary. Very condescending , has a temper, doesn't explain. Seems if your a woman, he talks down to you. Doesn't take any time , quick 30 exam, then gone, never to be seen again, rest of the time nurses do all the work

I used to be a patient of Dr. Imbulgoda's. He's okay, but he acted like he knew what was best for me even though he barely knew me. (If you don't make the same choices he would make, then he assumes you're ignorant or naive.) The last post here, which I doubt was made by a patient at all, claims that Dr. Imbulgoda "allows patients to make their own treatment decisions." But it's not up to the doctor to "allow" patients to make decisions. Who thinks that way except for old-school doctors? Patients have an absolute right to make their own treatment decisions. Besides, not all patients think "chance of living" or survival is more important than everything else. Maybe once he gets old he'll realize this for himself.

Dr. Imbulgoda is soft spoken and respectful. He explains things thoroughly, provides options, and makes recommendations based on best practices. While he allows patients to make their own treatment decisions, he makes it very clear which treatment plan gives you the best statistical odds; he advocates for the treatment that will give you the best chance of living.

During my treatment he was extremely sensitive and gentle when doing physical exams and was kind to his staff. He is quick to refer to other support team members - social work, physiotherapy, pharmacy, etc - and acknowledges their expertise and their importance to the patient.

I would recommend Dr Imbagoda to anyone.

Dr. Imbulgoda is the best doctor I have ever had. He was very kind and compassionate while being clear with my treatment. He took the time to explain my diagnosis and prognosis. Overall, he was a wonderful doctor and I really appreciate everything he did for me. He went above and beyond!

I think he means well and is perhaps very stressed, but he inappropriately scolded me--a mature well-educated woman--because I had previously taken transdermal HRT (with the approval of my psychiatrist, endocrinologist, and GP). I felt like I was being treated as if I were a collection of cancer cells in a petri dish instead of as a whole person with a specific medical profile and individual values. Moreover, when I had questions after our meeting about the proposed medications, he irrationally told his nurse (at least according to her) that I must make a treatment decision BEFORE he would entertain questions about contraindications. My female surgeons, female radiology oncologist, and the female hospital pharmacist (to whom I ultimately asked to speak directly) have all been very skillful and very respectful in treating my breast cancer and answering my questions. They're clearly capable of thinking not only statistically but also qualitatively. The two male medical oncologists that I've seen to date, Imbulgoda being one of them, have been comparably reductionist. This seeming gender divide may be coincidental. Or it may be that some male practitioners need to work at cultivating greater empathy for the concerns, and sometimes complex predicaments, of their female patients.
