Very belittling to my child and myself. Very discriminatory against single moms. Compared her rich life to those who truly work for peanuts an d thinks you can come up with travel funds for medical care at the drop of a hat. We travelled in the end but to a different doc who put us on the right track. Would not go back to this woman again!

We saw Dr. Siu for 2 kids' hearing loss and 1 kid's Down syndrome. She was at all times kind, compassionate, non-judgmental and extremely helpful. Before our DS child was born she explained our baby's heart defects like no-one else was able to, put us in contact with other families and resources, and told me to have the hospital call her after our baby was born so she could personally perform the genetic examination and testing. After she examined our baby, she came came to my hospital room, congratulations me and told me how beautiful my baby was. She called me personally when she received the audiogram diagnosing our baby's hearing loss.

The medical genetics counsellor we saw through Dr. Siu was outstanding. She gave a thorough, yet fair and balanced explanation of the outcomes and implications of Trisomy 21, commenting the most people with DS learn to read, write and live fulfilled lives as contributing members of society. She made referals to a number of different doctors to ensure we had complete information on our baby's known and possible health issues. When I refused an amniocentesis (out of fear), she respected my decision, and warned me that I might be pressured by others, but to stick to what made me comfortable.

The first doctor who ever took the time to actually to listen to all of my symptoms and my belief that I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. She was patient and helpful, critical of the other unhelpful doctors I had seen but also not afraid to dismiss information she knew was not evidence based (something I view as crucial for a doctor unlike that anti-vax review). Admittedly all I needed from her was to confirm what I already knew but she was still one of the best doctors I have seen.

Let me begin by saying we were treated like religious fanatics when they found out we had not gotten a flu shot! It went down hill before we even seen the doctor.
This doctor gave my son the 3 min once over when he was 8 months old,,she basically measued his fingers and said,,oh he is fine!
We see her 12 years later as my son clearly has genetic defects, sticking to her claim from our file 12 years earlier ( that she was wrong) did nothing but belittle us.
We were told point blank that if she drew blood and had his genetics tested that employers could and use it against him,,,she said she would not get it done as the government someday would use it against him.
She asked questions that quite simply were none of her business that had absolutely nothing to do with his condition! When she found out he went to a Christian school she instantly drilled us on what vaccines he has had. ( we had all his vaccines done).
We basically walked away feeling belittled and depressed as we had hoped for an intelligent human being,,,obviously she feels threatened by Christians sending their kids to seperate schools.
Basically she did nothing twice! We went to the states and got what we needed.
I would not go back for another round of belittling. Honestly she talked about chocholate chip cookies describing it,,using that as a metaphor like we were idiots!
And this is what our good tax dollars gets you in Canada,,we get to over pay these idiots so you can go get belittled by them.
Do your self a favour and demand your doctor to send you anywhere but to her if you want a sciencentific anaylasist to find out what is wrong.

Dr. Siu takes the time to thoroughly explain things, and is quite approachable. She has called us back at home on several occassions to answer our questions, even into the evening. She encourages us to share whatever info we find and she is always willing and able to confirm the legitimacy of the information, and help send off samples when necessary. There are no "dumb questions" where Dr. Siu is concerned. She is patient and helpful.
