This doctor has always always been money hungry. Never has he cared about his patients. Anything to rip them off. He doesn't do anything for the better of his patients. He does a crappy job.

Screwed his patients out of a lot of money. He knew what was coming and didn't warn anyone. His name was still attached to the practice after he left.

I know I could rate Dr Wolk better and truly he does because I was not only referred to him by a co-work my also my son’s Dentist Dr Leopky upstairs.

I specificly mentioned to Dr Wolk and his office that I only wanted to deal with him. He up and left us with Helpern who was very arrogant when I mentioned I was referred to Wolk and I am disppointed that he retired as this was the story.

Dr Wolk you should have finished or never take on other patients if you were unsure of what you were doing. I am a single mom and I have lost money that I now have to find for someone else to take care of my childs braces. This was unfair of you and I find that as well dishonest. You should have stayed and finished the work you started OR you should not have taken on any more.

Staff was great one particular lady their was so awesome I wish I remember her name. Everytime my son can in we had her atleast two visits now... We bond over our kids one day he child was sick and her attitude was so postive and calm mentioned her dad was going to pick her child up. I wish you all the best.

Dr Wolk this is Sad, Sad for everyone who have lost their money in what was your business. I do blame you because I came just for you. We should have been handled differently.

Dr Wolk has publicly stated that ‘he was not comfortable with the use of unlicensed staff to carry out care for patients’ yet he willingly left many of his own patients in the care of Dr Halpern where they would be subject to these practices. Dr Wolk failed in his responsibility to protect the health and well-being of his patients. He had an obligation to report unprofessional conduct on the part of his colleague to the Alberta Dental Association and College. Instead, he placed his own interests above those of his patients. He does have culpability in the unfortunate situation faced by the patients whom he left in the hands of Dr Halpern.

For those who already got good service from Dr Wolk, I would like to say congratulation on your good services. For Dr Wolk friends, good friends, family, staffs, I also said thank you for your testimonial.
Here is my story, my sons started with him on July 2017 plan to finish on July 2019, and they charged us $8500. As an immigrant who only have one family income and 6 kids to take care, $8500 is a big amounts, as we should save the money for couple years. Yes it is our problem, we do not need any sympathy for that.
Suddenly the story started begun last week, when we saw on TV that the practice is close, no call, no emails, so we found out from the news.
Today Feb 22, we book appointment at myOrthodontist, where the “honour” Dr Ron Wolk is practice. We met him, and heard “The story” (without asked) from him. At the end, we got the fee estimate of $3997 that we need to pay to continue the treatment with him, (which is supposed to be only 6 months left on July 2019 )
Does it make sense if I have to pay $8500 + $4000 = $12,500 for the whole story that who know what was really happening there?
We understand to continue the treatment in his new place, it requires the material, but almost half price from original cost for only 6 months left?
To be honest as a patient, we only hear about the story, but nobody knows the truth. We found out it is weird that as an ex owner he doesn’t know the insurance that cover the practice. Does it make sense ? He is the original owner and don’t forget, he is the one who agree to ACCEPT (of course big $) take over payment from Dr Halpern.
In the end, I only have one question, did they have ethics and morality class in their orthodontic study ?

My children were patients of Dr Wolk's at Hoffman and Wolk. Dr Wolk is a caring, highly competent and good Orthodontist. Hoffman and Wolk was a fantastic practice. Everything started to change after Dr Halpern "joined" the practice. The keyword is joined. At no time were we informed that Dr Halpern was now the NEW OWNER of the entire practice. My wife and I thought the business was growing so Drs Hoffman and Wolk asked another good orthodontist to join them. We all got surprised when we received notice that Dr Wolk had left the practice. There was no information at all about WHY he left. We were told that Dr Halpern would be taking over. We thought maybe Dr Wolk had health problems (it happens). Then we got a letter later from Dr Wolk stating he was extremely concerned about the care of his patients under Dr Halpern. But Dr Wolk was situated so far away and in his letter he did not make clear if he would take over his patients willing to go to MYORTHODONTIST without extra charges. My daughter had a very bad experience with Dr Halpern after Dr Wolk left. The assistant had problems getting her brackets in or something and kept "poking around". She came back crying. So we told the office and they sent her a card apologizing. We thought maybe it was just a one off. We only found out about the bankruptcy at Hoffman and Wolk through my daughter's oral surgeon when we went to see him. This was like a week after the office was going to be taken over by Drs Chana and Cheba. Otherwise we were kept in the dark all this while. Only then did I start looking for information on this issue and most of it is in the ratings MD reviews for both Dr Wolk and Dr Halpern.
While I understand that Dr Wolk was upset and disappointed and worried, I also guess that he was unable to say anything due to his contract in selling his practice to Dr Halpern.
However, as professionals, they have a FIDUCIARY duty. That means to put the interests and safety of their patients above their own interests. Dr Wolk and Dr Hoffman had a duty to inform us if they felt that Dr Halpern was being negligent and unethical in his practice.
The sad truth is neither Dr Wolk or Hoffman spoke up. Thus they failed their patients. A warning could have been made to the Dental College earlier to halt Dr Halpern's practice and avoid further harm. But the fact is Dr Halpern was allowed to continue his nefarious ways while people in the profession were totally aware of it. The Orthodontic Profession has failed the patients of Hoffman and Wolk.
This is why I would give Dr Wolk a 1 star for helpfulness.

I am deeply saddened by the misinformation in which many of these reviews are placed. I was an employee of Dr. Wolk and Dr. Hoffman for many years and I stand by the fact that these two highly skilled, respected, compassionate Orthodontists are not to blame for Richard Halperns incompetence (I cannot in good conscience refer to him as Doctor).
In fact, upon Halperns purchase and acquisition of the practice of Hoffman Wolk Orthodontics, Dr.s Hoffman and Wolk continuously tried to guide and direct him but Halpern arrogantly dismissed their advise at all costs. This resulted in this highly serious and unfortunate circumstance in which the valued patients of HWH Orthodontics are now finding themselves caught up in. Not only have the patients been victimized but so too have Dr. Wolk, Dr. Hoffman and the staff as well.
I have every faith in the fact that Dr.s Hoffman and Wolk are not sitting idle in this matter and that they are taking this situation very seriously. I am certain they are working extremely hard to rectify this dilemma to the very best of their ability. Richard Halpern has wreaked havoc on the lives of patients, staff members and former owners of HW Orthodontics, Dr. Ron Wolk and Dr. Barry Hoffman and their families. Most unfortunately we have “all” been negatively impacted by Richard Halperns “take over”.

I have known Dr Wolk as a personal friend for over 25 years. I was made aware of the problems that were created by Richard Halpern over the past 2 years and could only sympathize with the ethical and legal quandary in which Dr. Wolk found himself. I met Richard Halpern when he first arrived on the scene and found him very personable and I could see why Drs. Hoffman and Wolk found him to be reliable. He said all the right things. For over a year after purchasing the practice, Halpern busied himself with changing trivial aspects of the business and it was impossible to judge his abilities. But eventually, he could not duck his responsibilities completely and that is when the real Halpern was revealed as he refused any advice and guidance from the most experienced orthodontists in the city, Dr Hoffman and Dr Wolk. Both Dr Hoffman and Dr Wolk struggled to complete their duties in a practice they no longer owned until, without notice last year, Dr. Wolk was told to evacuate his office and the practice and was given no opportunity to communicate with his patients. Dr. Wolk is heartsick over what Halpern has done to the patients and employees of his once-thriving practice. Remaining patients and those who came after Dr Wolk left have suffered a terrible economic loss. At least 1 patient has been able to recover their lost monies through VISA. That is encouraging but there is no guarantee of reimbursement. Dr Wolk is continuing to provide excellent orthodontic care to patients at myORTHODONTIST in McKenzie Towne and would encourage Halpern's victims to contact him there where they will be received with compassion. Neither myORTHODONTIST nor Dr Wolk can replace what is lost but they can ensure the best orthodontic care in Calgary and will extend themselves to help where ever possible (my opinion based on 25 years of personal experience with the kind and generous people involved).
