Dr Philip Chan is a caring loving supportive Dr. It’s hard these days to have a doctor like him. He explains everything to you and is on top of everything. His staff are fun and caring and easy to talk to, they all make you feel like your family. I’m truly blessed to have him taking care of my medical needs. There are a lot of doctors out there that should take notes because Dr Chan is the best and it shows.

Doctor Chan has been amazing in helping me get relief, any time I am in the hospital he will stop by and make sure I am getting enough meds to control my pain, of course he is busy between hospitals but will always make sure a request from the pharmacy is sent back to make sure medications are ready.

There is no room for a pain doc that deals with disabled but is an ableist, you are an ableist. He doesn’t seem to listen at all. It was like having a one was conversation. He waits for you to speak not to hear you but just to say what he wants to say. While you’re speaking he will just be thinking of what he wants to say. Then after our appointment I found out the way I felt was valid. I read what he wrote to my rheumatologist back. He got everything wrong. Even got the medications I’m on wrong. From doses, to how I take them, how often. I’m not just talking about opioids here cos I know that’s an issue with docs but other meds I’m on. Also he diagnosis new diseases, he does not need to do so. I’ve already gotten proper diagnosis. Plus he does so based off zero tests, just assumptions. Saying, well if you have chronic pain you must have a,b and c. Then my other real docs test me for a,b,c that he ads on it turns out he is wrong but doesn’t change his mind. Once again that goes on him not listening to patients nor their docs. And now every time I go to new doc, if they read his reports I have to waste my time explaining his incompetence. Pls Dr Chan if you are reading this, take this as someone trying to help you be a better doc, this is your most up to date review. This is how lots of your patients feel when they ask about you. Start listening to us, don’t just talk. Also not every chronic pain sufferer develops fibro, accept rheum’s diagnosis if they rule it out. And not every chronic pain sufferer has depression. Stop grouping everyone into one personality. It’s insulting to think every chronic illness sufferer is the same person. We are individuals.

Finally a Doctor who is empathetic and caring, listens carefully and speaks clearly and in terms we understand. His staff are great, they share his outlook and behavior. Dr Chan and team are the best my wife has found after 12 years of pain.

Extremely kind and caring always listens and thoroughly explains plans also offers advice that may help overall. Have never had one problem with Dr chan he truly cares about the welfare of his patients. Has always even with his crazy busy schedule found time to come see me whenever I've been admitted to hospital which is quite frequently whether it's to say hi or just to make sure I am doing OK and am not in too much pain and that means allot lot to me.great doctor actually cares for people empathy and caring he's great would never see another doctor.

I would dissagree with previouse comments, Dr.Chan HAS ALWAYS TREATED ME WITH THE MOST RESPECT AND MORE EMPATHY THAN ANY OTHER DR. I HAVE EVER SEEN & IVE SEEN MORE THAN MY FAIR SHARE ppl need to understand that Dr.Chan is part of an EXTREMLY FULL and Busy practice not only does he operate but he sees patients on a regular basis and in my eyes it takes a VERY VERY special Dr. to be in this field of medicine. I think before i do anything because i wouldnt ever want to dissappiont him and to me that alone means that he has gotten threw to me on a wonderful Doctor Patient basis. Before i saw Dr.Chan i was very Overly medicated i now take less in one day than i used to take in ONE DOSE because he took the time to listen and try to understand where the pain is coming from I have more respect for this Doctor than i have for most ppl because he is EXCELLENT at what he does. Just because a Dr. is Busy doesnt mean he isnt listening.A Patent of Dr.Chans in every sence of the word.T.G

When you can get to see Dr.Chan (waited a year), you might get some relief. No issues really with Dr. Chan - I think he can help you with your pain. Problem is his office receptionist/administrator. Useless re: customer relations. Could use sensitivity training (after all, ALL of the patients suffer chronic pain and need some empathy and some feeling that she cares and will try to get faster appointments, and if not, will then have the courtesy to explain why not). Not sure if the Stoney Creek St. Joe's clinic is a full-time job for Dr. Chan, but it should be, with 5-day per week office hours. Nothing worse than having to wait for months between appointments when you are in pain.
