Performed kidney stone removal. Dr. told me stone was "tiny" and should have passed on its own. Said stone "fell into" tube. Husband woke in excrutiating pain. Dr. admitted him for pain mgmt, where he spent an agonizing night of pain that morphine couldn't touch. Next a.m. had test that found that he had a torn ureter--so for an entire night about a liter of urine was forcing its way into his abdominal cavity. Dr. said he should have used a stent. Dr. repaired it surgically that p.m. Then ileus happened because of liter of urine in abd. cavity and too much morphine, that lasted 3 full days, untreated by the Dr. until I requested he try something other than morphine. Analysis showed that stone was far from "tiny"--it was 7mm wide. His notes showed that he knew he had bumped the stone. Lied about stone "falling into" tube. Talked incessantly about personal life--dogs, wife, scuba diving, his weight, investments, family history--little interest in discussing pt. Office crowded and dirty.
