Difficult to tell about his level of knowledge. Personable and charming before surgery, but afterward he didn't seem to remember who I was. He seemed to believe that patients should be satisfied with being schmoozed rather than informed.

Dr. Gitter took his time and explained thoroughly what would be done and then what was done. The surgery solved the problem.

A very enthusiastic and gung-ho cardiovascular surgeon, pouring on the charm to get you as a patient and on the operating table. After the surgery's over, though, he no longer cares. Following an open-heart surgery he performed on me, he repeatedly dismissed calls and concerns from nurses caring for me. At a follow-up visit one week after discharge, he barely sat down and didn't even bother to ask how I was doing. He was walking out the door while I was still trying to ask him questions, and he barely gave me the courtesy of a response. I had to go to my family practice MD in order to get anything resolved adequately.
