Dr. Buchanan is with Nirschl Orthopaedic. He is very knowledgeable, personable, and an excellent surgeon. He went over my MRI with me, checked on me two days after my surgery, and gave me his surgical writeup. I also elected to have a healthmed (zoom) meeting with him, and he was very accommodating. My one complaint is that he keeps you waiting a very long time in his office. I waited an hour and a half for my most recent visit, and when he finally appeared there was no apology. I don't know if that is typical of all the doctors at Nirschl, but it is inexcusable in my opinion.

Dr. Buchanan has seen me twice in the last two years for my heels - different feet...
He is patient - he takes the time to listen to you, and makes you feel as though you are his only patient for the day.
He is smart - he understands feet VERY well and can communicate with me without making me feel unintelligent. He presents options...I had a broken heel, and although he's a surgeon, we didn't do surgery.
He is kind - he seems genuinely happy to see me.
His staff - both at the front desk and in the exam area - are also excellent people - they are happy and outgoing.
His punctuality is excellent considering that he is giving all the patients before me the same service I receive.
I'd recommend him to anyone with orthopedic issues below the knee.

Dr. Buchanan is an excellent surgeon. He sincerely shows care for his patients and explains several options before rushing into any procedure. After seeing him about a year from an injury he determined that surgery might be the best option. He is a busy doctor as are most, however he spends whatever time I required answering questions and explaining his knowledge. I would definitely go back to him should I require medical attention for my ankle in the future.

Dr Buchanan was highly recommended to me. He's nice enough, though we do not get along at all. After 6 months of PT for a sprain that wouldn't heal he debrided my ankle, which then healed better than before but still hurt. I resprained it within 6 mos. & saw another doc in the practice. Again it wouldn't heal. When I went back for MRI results, I hadn't been barely able to walk for 2 weeks due to intense pain. I went in expecting a surgery rec & was told there was nothing wrong b/c the MRI was clean. I got a 2nd opinion and found out he'd been focused on the wrong joint among other things. "Nothing" turned into a Brostrum repair and extensive debridement of tendons and sinus tarsi. I'm still in rehab but in less pain, finally, than before. The younger doc in this practice I'd seen before concurred with the soft tissue rebuild.

He left me sitting in a waiting room for two hours without a single apology. He is condescending and much too impressed with himself.

Dr. Buchanan was very nice but I have to say I was a bit disappointed. He came so highly recommended and I waited 4 wks (in pain) to see him. I was so happy about my appt because I thought I would finally get some answers and while briefly looking at my foot (I limp constantly) he said I should get physical therapy which may in fact help. I do believe that but I just wished he as a bit more interested in the pain factor. He is not very sympathetic. Def friendly but more mechanical. I also felt like since I didn't have any major foot injury and was not alex ovechkin, not a lot of time was given. It was not a bad appointment but definitely disappointing.

Dr. Buchanan did a great job fixing my ankle for me. I had torn two chunks of cartilage inside my ankle and do the fact I didn't have insurance at the time, had been floating around inside my ankle for a little over a year. Also do to the time lapse one of my tendons had stretched to a degree that could cause problems later on. After explaining the issues and going over different options and give each options pros and cons I elected to had the cartilage removed and the tendon tightened. Dr. Buchanan was quick, through and made me feel comfortable and confident in his ability to correct the issue. 11 months later I competed in my first triathlon finishing in the top 100 out of nearly 600 people. I highly recommend Dr. Buchanan I would go back to him in a heart beat if the need arises.

I highly recommend Dr Buchanan - i had 2 severe bunion cases - he basically reconstructed my rt foot and it healed beautifully - i decided only 4 months later to repeat the surgery on my left foot - it is nearly completed healing and i am so happy. I had heard horror stories about bunion repairs but with Dr Buchanan it was a dream. I can now walk without pain. Chose him as your doctor and i promise you will not be let down. His entire staff were so nice and kind and cheerful too. A complete package.

I had been diagnosed with a neuroma and had tried the cortisone shots and medication. Nothing worked. I was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Buchanan the minute I met him. He explained to me what was going on with my foot and after exploring the options I decided on the surgery. He explained everything about the procedure. At pre-op appointment I was given medication, my surgical boot and a shield guard for my foot so that I could immediately take a shower. The procedure took about 30 minutes in a beautiful surgery center (Woodburn Surgery Center) with great people and the best customer service I have seen in a while. After the surgery I had a nerve block so my entire foot was completely numb (a weird feeling). It lasted for approximately 24 hours so there was no pain the first day at all. As the foot began to wake up I took a pain pill just in case. But there was no pain! I took 2 pain pills the entire time. I was out of the boot in 4 weeks and into sneakers with no pain.

Snowboarded into a tree in Feb. 2010 and got a sweet fib/tib fracture. Surgeon in Colorado referred me to Dr. Buchanan. I had two surgeries with Dr. Buchanan and his PA, Josie. Staff is awesome, kind, and fun. Because of their work I kept my foot and can walk again. I highly recommend the Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center.
