Dr Chou has done both knees. I had the partial done on both, the right partial came apart and I had to wait 1 month to have it fixed. I went back for my follow up all seemed to be going well. Then the pain came and I went back and he was more worried about his new pool that was not done right. After sitting in the room listening to him complaining about the pool he was not even with a patient. He looked at my xrays and said it all looks good. I complained about the pain and he told me to go to the pharmacy and get a lift for my left shoe. I asked how big he said just a small one. I left the cast clinic very up set. I call Loren and told her I will not be back that I will find a new surgeon. I found one, he sent me for a bone scan. When the results came back both replacements had failed. No wonder I am in pain. Now I am getting total replacements on both knees. I can’t even go for a walk or sleep. Dr Chou has left me a crippled old man and he does not care.

I recently (April 16th) had Dr. Chiu perform a Full left Knee Replacement surgery at Langley Memorial Hospital. I had been suffering for several years with arthritis, and bone on bone contact which inflicted pain at every step. I was referred to Dr. Chiu several months prior for my 1st examination, and found the experience professional, and to the point. Diagnosis was that I could wait or decide upon the surgery and go on the waiting list, which I decided to do. The day I arrived at Langley Memorial Hospital, was a little concerned, as I did not know what to completely expect. However once I was processed and sent to the post operating area, everything went quickly and I was treated patiently, with full instructions by all staff. After that everything went seamlessly, and upon Dr. Chiu's arrival, he explained what would happen during the complete procedure. Well all can tell you from post op, to waking up to Dr. Chiu and his staff in the surgery room, they told me all went well, and we had a perfect procedure. From that day until now ( 4 weeks) I have been in following complete instructions, and also signed up for Physiotherapy to help in quick recovery. I have been 2 weeks in Phsio, and am currently walking with very little pain, and no crutches, or cane. As a matter of fact I have not used the crutches or cane for the over 2 weeks. I am in full recovery, and as my physiotherapist says he cannot believe how fast I am progressing and healing. I do believe that with help of the medication, taken when needed and the professional care from that day in Surgery, care from staff at Langley Memorial Hospital, and the staff and surgical care from Dr. Chiu, that I will have a good Knee for the next 25 years. I highly recommend Dr. Chiu. Thank You Kari Lumme

Saw Dr. Chiu for a cortisone injection for frozen shoulder, when I questioned him whether or not it should be radiology guided (which worked for me last time) he assured me he knew exactly where to place the injection so I proceeded. Did absolutely nothing, zero pain relief. Condescending manner as well. Kept asking me questions with related to T2 Diabetes when I clearly stated that I have Type 1 Diabetes.

Dr. Mark Chiu is a kind, knowledgeable surgeon. He replaced my hip and did a fantastic job. The after surgery care was really good and left me feeling confident and strong. Staff is super as well. I would recommend Dr. Chiu to anyone wanting joint surgery. He is the best.

I was very nervous about this operation. But after 9 days I am walking unassisted. As usual I cant get a hold of him and that is fine .But if I could I would say Thank you. My bowed leg is gone my leg is straight and 1/2 inch longer than my right. I can walk. and as soon as he does my right leg they will be the same length . Dr. Chiu is great . seek him out. you will not be disappointed.

Dr.Chiu Replaced my right knee with great success. No infection, great detailed post op care. I am now waiting for him to replace my left knee. I trust him implicitly .. Lauren , runs his office and she is caring as well as very helpful. An all around positive experience. Although not his fault, the wait list for surgery is appalling. Very frustrating to suffer for so long. There are some Dr out there with shorter wait lists but Dr CHIU is worth the wait.

On May 20/16 Dr. Mark Chiu completed a Partial Meniscectomy and a Cartilage debridement on my left knee arthroscopically. Now, 13 days later I would say that his surgery has been very successful. For over a year I had excruciating pain in my left knee. It didn’t matter if I walked or just laid in bed, the “lightning” strike type pains came out of nowhere. After my MRI, it was determined that I had a tear in my Medial Meniscus. The jagged edges protruding into the knee caused the pain. Unfortunately, in our medical system, there was a waiting time to see orthopedic surgeons, especially the good ones. When making the appointment I spoke to Lauren his Medical Office Assistant. She was exceptional. She showed genuine concern, was knowledgeable, and tried to set up an appointment which worked well with my obligations. When I was able to see Dr. Chiu I was also impressed. In his office he has plaster casts of the knee and was able to show me the knee parts with the medial and lateral meniscus, ACL, cartilage, ligaments and tendons, etc. Knowing that a meniscus was torn he explained the arthroscopic surgery as well as giving me an option to have a hyaluronic solution injected during the operation to help keep the knee “oiled” .
Sometimes as a senior, myself being 74 years old, many of us have sensed that Doctors are not as concerned with the surgery as they would be with much younger people. However, in my situation, Dr. Chiu, gave me as much attention as I received when I was a 21 year old athlete. A week before the operation, I had some concerns and wanted to see him. Knowing the waiting list, I was pleasantly surprised that Lauren was able to have me come after the last patient of the day. Dr. Chiu saw me again and alleviated my concerns, although he was done for the day. After the knee operation I woke up and had a folder showing the “Arthroscopy Findings”. There was a diagram of the knee and the procedures performed pointing to the various parts of the knee – which was very helpful. On June 2, Dr. Chiu removed the stitches and gave me a colour picture of my knee showing the difference before and after the surgery. Hopefully, I will not require any more knee surgeries but if I do, I certainly would choose Dr. Chiu and his Medical Office Assistant.
