Dr Barrett is a wonderful doctor! Smart and compassionate. He always answers questions thoroughly, and listens carefully. He has decades of experience that display his expertise on illnesses he treats! Simply the best neurologist Albuquerque has to offer.

Just wants to put you on pills and not listen to what actually is going on. Ignores your comments and then rebutting with an even more rude comment. DONT GO TO HIM!

I only put one star because that is the minimum, otherwise it would be negative.  I was told, verbatim, "I am a little annoyed that you are here".  I plan to report him to the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  When someone goes out of their way to be that rude and unprofessional, the least I can do is repay him by reporting him. He made it very clear that we did not even deserve to be breathing the same air as him, and we were wasting his precious time.
This facility as a whole is also a joke.  I initially had an appointment with another neurologist, Dr. Licona, but she referred me to Dr. Barrett because she said she did not perform my treatment, and to get my copay back.  Of course this was after waiting a month for the appointment an being told that she did perform it.  I got in on a cancellation with Dr. Barrett a few weeks later, but after he tells us that "we are lucky to be here", he says he is a little annoyed we are here.  I do not care how short on neurologists Albuquerque is, this is unacceptable.  The thing is that he didn't have to be like that.  He could have said that he just did not want to treat me.
The funny thing is that my neurologist in Union Square, San Francisco was never that arrogant.

He was just an absolute nightmare. The worst experience I have EVER had with a doctor. He actually said he was "a little annoyed" we were even there in the first place. What an egotistical joke and a waste of valuable medical office space. Spread the word!

I love the fact that when I call with an issue I don't get a call from a nurse or other assistant telling me what the doctor wants me to do. Instead Dr. Barrett himself calls and spends 5-7 minutes talking to me on the phone and clarifying the situation before deciding what is best for me with my condition. He always gets back to me the same day I call unless he is out of the office.

10/17/11 my 47 yr old husband had a MILD stroke, within hrs of being admitted to the hospital he had a Grand Mal Seizure causing 5 compression fractures in his back. Once released from the hospital Dr. Barrett became his Neurologist. Dr. Barrett prescribed the anti-seizure med Keppra. The med caused extreme negative side effects including deep chest pain. Dr. Barrett changed the med to Lamotrigine. For 6 weeks he had to take BOTH meds. At the end of September 2012 I was extremely scared and phoned Dr. Barrett to advise him that my husbands side effects had worsened significantly. Every time he took the anti-seizure med it seriously intensified the discomfort in his chest, he was also saying things he would not normally say and falling asleep at the dinner table and his desk. Dr. Barrett focused on the mental effects and completely ignored the physical complications. He told me "it is all Psychological". 2-1/2 weeks later my husband, now 48 years old, died.

I have been seeing DR. Barrett since I was 10 years old. I am now 28. He has always listened and tried his hardest to find out why I was having seizures. My family and I have nothing bad to say about him. He has always been respectful, kind, and professional.

Dr. Barrett was extremely arrogant and condescending to me during my appointment. I had very strange and scary neurological symptoms and he did nothing to try to explain them to me. He only criticized me for misusing the word "neuropathy", insisting that by definition I didn't have neuropathy, and why did I keep using that word? I'm an intelligent person and he treated me like I was an idiot, and that I was certainly wasting his time. It was a horrible experience and I left in tears. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. He should be working alone in a file room instead of treating patients.

I've been seeing him for around 10 years for routine treatment of migraines. He is always courteous and respectful and has done everything he ever promised. He keeps good records and follows up appropriately from one visit to the next. I have not seen the negative behavior described by others.

This dr is full of himself. he does not accept ANY reason that you may not be able to follow his "plan". when my daughter first saw him he gave her samples of abortive migraine meds, told us not to take w/certain other meds, which she did as directed.she ended up in ED per instructions of on call dr. he did not call to talk to me until 6:30 next day,new pt,ED,no call till 6:30,then cut me off when i was talking to him. she had seretonin syndrome,he was angry cuz she would not take any more of his meds.will never recommend him to anyone.
