I took my son who is 2 in to see Dr. Grobler today after waiting for four months for this appointment. My son does not say any words and I have been concerned about autism. He has rather quirky behaviours sometimes and I don't know where he got it from. The appointment lasted an hour and the doctor really listened to my concerns and gave me lots of good information. He said my son is definitely showing some of the signs of autism and referred me to the Aspire clinic for an assessment. We have a follow up in three months. The staff was also super friendly. My son likes to run up to people and one of the ladies let him sit in her lap, while I finished some paperwork.

Doctor Grobler was brought in on my daughter's case after several months of stomach issues. She was feeling pain and nausea etc. My daughter has been small all of her life since birth but has been healthy with no concerns. She is now 16 years old. All tests (blood work, X-rays and ultrasounds) showed nothing. Our family doctor referred us to Doctor Grobler and it was one of the worst experiences of our lives. Our first consultation showed my daughter to be underweight and small for her age. Without much previous knowledge of her, he already had issues that suspected an eating disorder. A follow up appointment was made for three months later. At that point, my daughter had gotten sick suddenly. She lost a total of 4 pounds during her sickness, and she missed two months of school. At the second appointment with him, he admitted her to the hospital for suspected malnutrition(?)/anorexia(?)/starvation(?). He would not listen to us in regards to the fact that there was no eating disorder involved in her issues. She began to cry and he did not console her in any way. When she was in the hospital, he had already had tunnel-vision on what the issue was; an eating disorder. He forced her to talk to a Psychiatrist, who, in the end, did not suspect mental instability. We requested tests to "prove" his theory that her stomach was so small due to a lack of food that it needed to be stretched(Barium test), and he refused. My daughter calmly asked "Why?" and he told us that we argued too much and then he quit. She was then given another pediatrician who asked once if an eating disorder was involved, and when my daughter said no, she abandoned that route. She said that she saw no reason that I was in the hospital in the first place. She released her the next day after she administered the barium test as well as a breath test (testing for H. Pylori) both coming back normal, or negative. Doctor Grobler refused to prove himself correct, and in the end he couldn't have been farther off from the truth. My daughter was in the hospital for four days, and the whole experience traumatized her. She has always been self conscious of her weight and body-type, and regardless, a doctor made her feel worse about herself. She cried a lot and didn't understand why she was put into the hospital in the first place. The whole situation was devastating for her, and I know she (or I) will never forget it.

Dr Grobler saved our daughters life. We had a premature baby girl who went into respitory distress in the NICU and he quickly efficiently and successfully operated. He also genuinely seems to want to follow up care with his patients. Every experience is personal and different but we can't thank you enough Dr Grobler! our baby is a perfectly healthy 20 month old baby girl.

Went in with concerns about my son who was three and not speaking. He didn't do any assessment, other than watching my son and I read a book. When questioned what we should do, he simply said, "Your son is not autistic". My concern was not if my son was Autistic, my concern was that my son was 3 and not speaking. He did not refer to us to any outside agency and simply told us to return in a year. It's a good thing we pursued different avenues, as my son has a language disorder that actually qualifies him as having a disability in Alberta. My son is now 9.5 and still struggles tremendously with language and has extreme difficulties in school. This is after years of early intervention. If you do not like your experience with Dr. Grobbler, please continue pursuing until you find a professional that takes you seriously.

Was referred to him by my gp. After figuring out on my own that my daughter has a milk protein allergy, he proceeded to tell me that no she have an allergy to milk, she just had colic, but the colic was mental and had nothing to do with her stomach. I asked to be referred to an allergist to check for sure, he looked at me and said "No, because they're not going to tell you anything." I am very un impressed with him. Would not recommend him to ANYONE!

Thorough and to the point, but it feels as though this doctor doesn't take our concerns seriously.

Our son was born premature and we have had Dr Grobler as our pediatrician since then. He has always been very thorough and asks lots of questions to determine that our son is developing normally and doing well :)

I feel like my concerns werent properly addressed or explored by Dr. Grobler. I was in to see him as I think my daughter may be autistic. He didnt ask the basic questions according to the universal screening tool M-Chat, and I thought he would have done that at the very least. He brushed us off and said there was no way because she wasnt just sitting there with a blank stare, which is a myth regarding autistic children. He did send us for lots of tests and we are back to see him in a month. I asked him for a referral to Aspire where they are specialized in assessing children for special needs and he refused. I called back to insist and he still refused. I understand I can self refer, but without a Dr. referral I have to pay $800 for the Aspire assessment. Im hoping for the sake of my family he is right and I dont need to worry, but I just dont think he could make that determination in such a short appointment. Im not confident that he knows enough about autism and the early signs.
