In june of 1982 Dr. Savage performed surgery on my right eye for a partially detached retina. At the time he told me that he'd be able to restore my perifial vision.
To make a long story short when I wear eyeglasses now my vision in both eyes is 20 20.

Dr. Savage restored my vision infinately better than he said he would. I'm now 77 and am so thankful that Dr. Savage was so skilled.

Dr Savage is an incredibly gifted surgeon. If you can deal with the obnoxious office staff he is worth it. They are the worst and rudest I have ever seen.

Dr. Savage has restored my sight after I went completely blind from my left eye many years ago. I have continued to see him regularly and I feel I am in very competent care. I have consult other retina specialist and no-one equal Dr. Savage' knowledge He did not hesitated to leave his practice and his appointments to come to the hospital to perform an emergency surgery . I will be forever grateful to him. The staff are doing a good job.

I'm commenting because having read prior comments re office staff manners I was really worried about my visit. But as far as my experience went today people were professional, courteous & helpful. I can't rate knowledge . Dr. Savage was very pleasant & helpful as well.

Dr. Savage has operated on each of my eyes twice, once for detached retinas and the other for cataracts. I have been seeing him at least once a year since 1999 for follow up visits. From my experience, he is an extremely talented surgeon, incredibly knowledgeable regarding eyes (and how to fix them), and he has top notch staff. He also works extremely hard - I asked him how many patients he has had over the years and he told me there were 40,000 (based on my years of visiting him, I believe that number). Anyone who is cranky about COVID protocols in their office should consider that if he is sick for a week then there are probably 50 people who have to reschedule operations. As far as scheduling goes, Dr. Savages wife manages the staff at the clinic and she has done a great job of making sure everyone runs smoothly, even if it seems like "military precision" sometimes. I have the utmost respect for Dr. Savage, his wife, and all of the staff at the clinic. Having been threatened twice with blindness, I am extremely grateful for the care I have received and I know I am not alone!

I have been seeing Dr Savage for the last 5 years I think. The first time I saw him at the Rockyview eye clinic and found him to be a very nice man. I continued to see him at his office and that was an experience I don’t want to repeat. The staff are anything but friendly and very militant in the way they deal with people. Front desk personnel are not friendly and totally unaccommodating. I know his wife runs the office and is anything but friendly. The atmosphere in the office is cold and critical. I’d never work for someone like that in a million years. I had my last appointment today and will never go back.

the receptionist for DR Savage is extremely rude to customers, she has no customer service, and if she is his wife I petty the husband to being married to this awful person, imagine life with her, and being degraded all the time.

I am not rating Dr Savage really however how you are treated by his staff is a reflection on Dr Savage himself. The way patients are treated the minute you enter this office is disgraceful and that falls directly on Dr Savage.

I received good and competent care from Dr. Savage himself. The office manager I found to be quite abrasive and overbearing. This is an unacceptable way of dealing with patients in any health care setting, but especially when they are perhaps nervous re upcoming eye surgery, or are first day post-op with eye patched!
However, from reading past reviews, this atmosphere in the office has been going on for a long time and will likely not change anytime soon.
The staff are efficient and competent but I felt there was not much friendly engagement with patients; almost as if they are afraid. The lady who made my next appointment was more friendly and helpful.

I saw Dr. Savage for emergency eye surgery at Rockyview and he was knowledgeable and excellent. I put a 3 for punctuality because it was urgent care and they did indicate it could take several hours. However, the follow-up appointment scheduled for his clinic just got cancelled because the office asked if I travelled outside of Calgary. I had been in Banff (about an hour away) and they wanted to reschedule to a date I couldn't make. So I ended up cancelling it altogether. And when I asked them to send the surgery report to my ophthalmologist, they said they needed to get this request in writing - via FAX (who has a fax machine these days?) After telling them I would drop by the office with a letter, they said they would contact the ophthalmologist's office directly. On the point of leaving the city of Calgary - what if I lived in Airdrie or Okotoks...would they never let me come in to the clinic? What kind of crazy travel restriction is this? If Dr. Savage had a decent clinic with knowledgeable staff (like the ones at Urgent Care), he would be much better served...
