One of the best Doctors I had the good fortune to meet and get treated. He was treating me for a urine infection. My regular Doctor had sent me for an MRI at Beth Israel Hospital after I got sick and wanted to find out the cause. The radiologist diagnosed with cancer of the kidney. I returned three days later for a repeat test and my Doctor said they re-confirmed the cancer. I had made an appointment with Dr. Ficazzola to schedule surgery. He studied both x-rays and said because he knew my history of urine infection he wanted me to go for a THIRD MRI at NYU with Dr.Bozniak head of Radiology. Previously I had an infection near the bladder and was taking anti-biotics. My MRI was scheduled three days before my kidney surgery. After the MRI Dr.Bosniak happened to be at the clinic, and he told me that after studying the two previous x-rays and the current test, I HAD NO CANCER, and had a minor infection and the anti-biotics will cure it after two weeks. No need for any surgery. Dr. Ficazzola with his kind concern and being EXTRA CAREFUL before performing any surgery, saved a kidney that would have been removed without any reason. I am truly indebted to Dr.Ficazzola for saving me from a major surgery that was not needed. It was a happy ending to neeedless worrying. Thank you

Dr.Ficazzola!

Had been stuck with Dr.Siegel at hospital b/c of kidney stone. Got v.sick & she didn't care. Was lucky to see Ficazzola. It's a rare doctor who is respectful and seems to know what he's doing. I'm sorry that a few hard to please patients haven't had any luck with him, but I find their comments telling. The very idea that he is on a 'power trip' is laughable, as he is so mild mannered! I have chronic health conditions & can honestly say there are many, many doctors who are far, far worse, and for whom you wait far longer than a half an hour. You can't please everybody, but I really believe his poor rating is undeserved. Is one of the better doctors out there.

It's not a stretch to say that this doctor saved my life. My experience was profound, not just a routine office visit. I am 47 years old. I suffered from urinary infections for too long of a period and was seen by three other urologist who were quick to dispense of drugs to deal with the symptoms but could not diagnose the underlying problem...a bladder neck obstruction which caused a severe "bladder diverticulum." Dr. Ficazzola cleared the blockage in one procedure then operated to repaired the MASSIVE diverticulum. This required a 5 day hospital stay. If I can be so blunt...today, I pee like a race horse thanks to Dr. Ficazzola! Dr. "Fic" is smart, compassionate, sincere and has excellent communication skills. His bedside manner is impeccable. Not only would I recomend him, I have recommended him several times over.

Michael Ficazzola was the worst dr. I have ever been to. I do not recomend him to anyone. He doesnt listen to his patients and seems to be on a bit of a power trip. I learned more about kidney stones on the internet than from his poor attempt to answer any of my questions, (which he seemed to find annoying).

He does not attempt to diagnose your problem, instead goes through standard treatment for general urology problems - i.e. various different drugs. If one drug doesn't work, he will give you another. If that one doesn't work, he'll try another. Doesn't really take the time to speak with patients about symptoms, etc. The average appointment time is 5 - 10 minutes, after dealing with a 30-60 minute wait in the small waiting room. Visiting this doctor was a complete worth of time.
