My daughter stayed at mhni for 11 days and the only thing we learned was that her pressure with a lumbar puncture was elevated and draining the fluid was the only thing that had relieves her pain at all. However in the report Dr Saper stated there was no change in her pain. He also stated “opinions” in his report due to no relief in her symptoms because, you know, if he couldn’t find a way to provide relief for her pain then she was obviously exaggerating her pain. His “opinion” likely hindered her getting the help she needed from other medical professionals for years as that report followed her. My “opinion” is that he is very egotistical and lacks the compassion one would expect from a doctor o interested in actually helping his patients. After years of searching and her suffering and her symptoms progressing, and finally finding good doctors that are knowledgeable and actually care about finding the cause of a patients constant and debilitating pain, she now has several diagnoses that are proven with accurate medical tests and procedures. I would not recommend Dr Saper or the head pain institute if you actually need to find the root cause of your pain. If you want to try every drug they can think of that might possibly help and then get criticized if you ask to stop any of them due to burning veins or having to have so many IVs replaced and because they’re not helping; if you want to be written off as a lunatic for trying to research and advocate for yourself or your loved one; if you want to be treated like you’re not really sick and are just choosing to subject yourself to all the pain and tests and drugs just to avoid school or work or whatever… just go see Dr Saper and participate in his program. I regret ever taking my daughter to see him. I would like to speak to Dr Saper to inform him of what has actually been causing her constant pain for over 10 years now. Because maybe it would help him to think about other patients and what might be causing their pain if they have similar symptoms to my daughter. I would like to think maybe he’s changed since we were there and would care to know what we’ve found out.

I am 18 and I have been suffering from chronic migraine-headaches since the age of 10. I came into the facility with a migraine-headache that had been lasting a little over a month straight. The doctors and staff instilled confidence and hope in me throughout my time here. Some trial and error ultimately led to a breakthrough in my headaches. I had a facet block and an epidural. This gave me an enormous amount of relief from my pain, and I finally have my life back. I am now able to attend my first year of college without worrying about missing things due to headaches.

I will know more after I get home and have time to see if what the team recommends in the way of treatment helps my headaches. Everyone seems to care and wants to improve your condition. To me this is very important. I want to feel better because the team seems.

I fortunately responded quite well to the first DHE Reglan Benadryl protocol, but also had occipital and cervical facet blocks. I felt that the team gave comprehensive thought and care to all possibilities of intervention and were suitably communicative. I feel positive and hopeful about my post hospital health. I will plan on regular follow up at MHNI. I got handouts for classes that were not offered during the holiday week, so I feel I will still benefit from these interventions as well.

Dr Saper and his team are extraordiniary! The most knowledgable and compassionate people I have ever come across in my many years of headache illness. Would definitely recommend MHNI and Chelsea to others,.

The level of understanding from every level of staff was exceptional and unmatched in comparing with the ten other facilities i have gone to in the past. A soft tone of voice goes a long way in consideration to our head pain. I am forever indebted to the staff here at the head pain unit as well as down at the surgical floor where they also understood our pain and reacted accordingly. With an accurate diagnosis and best plan of care I have ever recieved in the last four years of suffering, it is more than safe to say I am over the moon.
