We have been siting on this painful knowledge for 14 years. Our son was operated on by Dr. Pugh for a biopsy of an inoperable brain tumour. He insisted we look at the MRI screen shots prior to the surgery when we did not want to, a visual we wish we had not seen. It haunts us to this day. He cavalierly claimed there was less than a 5% chance of a brain bleed and that it was a short stay in hospital. Our son suffered a severe brain bleed from the surgery and was not monitored closely. By the time they got him back in to stem the flow, severe damage had been done. We almost lost him. He was in hospital for a month and has been left with debilitating issues. His quality of life is forever compromised from the damage and poor care. I was told Dr. Pugh lost sleep over our son. That doesn’t help him now. At one point in time we asked how we would know if the shunt was not working. In front of our son he said “ Well, some kids die in their sleep, but that is usually infants”. At this point we did not have much faith in him or the Stollery. We lost so much sleep in a vigilant mode. We all suffer PTSD to this day, especially our poor son.

I am ashamed of myself for not finding this doctor earlier !! Aside from smart , caring and compassionate, he actually had a conversation with me and didn’t just slide me off. He reached down beneath the diagnosis and gave me amazing health tips to better myself . Love this doctor

He is an absolutely amazing doctor. Always professional and made sure we understood everything from beginning to end. He was continuously checking on our daughter to make sure she was healing properly. I've never met a doctor like him. Hands down, the best!

Dr. Pugh is an incredible surgeon, we couldn't be happier. He's knowledgeable, passionate and great with families. Our 4 month old son required surgery and through the process, we felt very supported and in the loop. Dr. Pugh took time to explain everything thoroughly and answered our questions. This is a doctor dedicated to his patients and their families. He has a good sense of humor too and it sure helps. We feel fortunate to have his help.

My 4 year old has had 2 major brain surgeries in 9 weeks to remove tumors . Dr Pugh is simply a walking angel and I am forever thankful for him. He's straight up, he tells you exactly what's going to happen and doesn't sugar coat anything. When he speaks, he speaks directly to you. He asks if you understand what's being said. He cares about my son, and has always promised he would do everything in his power to have the best possible out come. He speaks to my son, he makes him laugh, and makes him feel comfortable. He truly cares about his patients. I can't say enough good things about this man. God forbid your in my position one day, but he is an amazing doctor and your child will be in the best of hands.
