Peter Hawrylyshyn told me if I didn’t induce I was at risk of killing my child. 11 years later my child suffers from the stress of that time, so do I, but otherwise there was absolutely nothing wrong with him. Hawrylyshyn even called me to say “he wasn’t sure but maybe” my child’s brain left and right hemisphere wasn’t connected. He is a total quack. When I went in for the follow-up to ask him why he thought my child would die (he had me doing ultrasounds every few days) he said something about my placenta being 10% smaller than they would have liked. No acknowledgment of his absolutely wrong diagnosis. I had my third child at home with a midwife. He is a quack. And in my personal opinion aligned with the devil.

Dr. H is one of the kindest,Nicest doctors I have ever seen. I switched to him at 28 weeks and had the most amazing care. He really took the time to talk to me and explain everything since I was on the younger side of things and has lot of concerns. Toward the end of pregnancy when it just gets hard to do anything he was a listening ear and always made sure to listen to me even tho he was really busy. While I was in labour, he came and checked in on me even tho wasn’t on call and spoke to me about what’s going on with my case and explained it. After birth, he again came to my room in recovery to see me and look at my baby. He’s an amazing man! Always answering his emails and any calls I had. So sad to see that he’s retiring soon.

Pregnant with twins, transferred from midwives at 15 weeks, first visit at 16 weeks.
Waited 52 minutes, voiced concern, told "what do you expect, we're a busy practice!" by a rude receptionist.
Dr Hawrylyshyn's first 6 words to me were "when should we book your caesarian?" with a calendar in hand.
I indicated I was aware of health benefits of labouring naturally, even if it ends up caesarian (3rd pregnancy) and his response was "we'll see", with a smirk.
I felt unsafe.
In conversation with other OB/GYN, I've discovered his nickname among staff is "Dr Hack Em Up" because that's what he does.
I left in shock, and was graciously accepted by the head on Sunnybrook's high risk dept, next day, after emailing about my experience with Mount Sinai.

If you only want to be sliced open, pick your birth date, etc, he's perfect. If you care about your baby, your perineum, your recovery time, find any other human being on the planet.

My husband and I saw Dr. H for my two pregnancies and he was caring and patient with our questions. He had answered all our inquiries and was proactive with all the assessments and tests I needed throughout both pregnancies. We hope to have him again as our OB since my husband and I found out that we are expecting our third child.

Very experienced and professional Doctor. He delivered my two kids and did a wonderful job. As all the other doctors he sees you for a short time and responds your questions very quickly. If he sees you need more attention because of health reasons he will give you more time but if you don't he will move to the next patient quickly.

Dr Hawrylyshyn is kind and compassionate. He is very knowledgeable and will take time during your appointment and beyond to think and provide advice if you have any complications to your pregnancy. I get the sense that some of the negative reviews are simply a result of his delivering news that these people simply don’t want to hear, which is not an appropriate reason for a poor review. Pregnancy and birth are complicated it’s not good news and smooth sailing all the time! All the more reason to entrust yourself to this doctor’s capable hands.

This OB told my sister that the baby’s shoulders were too big for her vagina. This is a self-fulfilling prophecy!!! The more scared and anxious she is the less her body (pelvic floor) will relax and open and make space for her baby. Even though he has years of experience delivering babies, this old-fashioned way of thinking is why more than half of cesarean sections in North America are UNNECESSARY! Luckily she had been seeing an incredible pelvic health physiotherapist prenatally and felt empowered to make decisions for herself. She also read Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth (that I strongly recommended). She also knows that delivering on her back will not allow her pelvis to open as much, which happens to be the position most OBs prefer...

Dr Hawrylyshyn, delivered our three girls with kindness and utter understanding at every turn and twist. Our second daughter has severe special needs. He not only spotted it early on in the pregnancy, he shepherded us though a devastating time with gentleness, wisdom and optimism. He is a world-class doctor with experience few in Canada could ever call upon. He has connections to all top specialists in his field and he is the truest example of a gentleman you will ever meet. A patient would be lucky to call him their doctor. Pamela Ritchie Levitt

This surgeon is frighteningly INSENSITIVE and grossly incapable of empathy. I'm not sure why he's chosen this as his choice profession as he has no sense of limit when addressing a woman. My first birthing experience was at a completely different hospital and the delivering Dr basically treated me like a number there was NO discussion about complications she pulled out a vacuum and some scissors and without so much as a heads up cut me and suctioned my child (there was no reason she had no patience) As most women can imagine that's horrifying for a first time experience. A wave of emotions took over me I didn't even want to hold my child!!! TRAUMATIC! I was recommended to mount Sinai from a number of ppl however when I got there and was asked by this Dr what happened and why i needed to address possible depression or talk to someone about a traumatic experience, he told me that he doesn't feel I need it because the outcome of the experience was ultimately MY FAULT and I shouldn't blame the Dr. SOOOOOOOOO I'm in pain I'm pushing out a child in agony dr has done this a million times but its MY FAULT i didn't ask the right questions before the scissors and vacuum. ?????? THAT'S HER JOB TO EXPLAIN WHATS GOING ON TO ME THE IGNORANT FIRST TIME MOTHER! IN what world is it MY FAULT my family was there and NO ONE knew what was happening. Needless to say this MAN has no clue about anything that relates to a woman and not to mention he is absolutely ARROGANT. He kept rambling about me not taking ownership of my part in the failed experience and kept going on and on about it being my own fault. I couldn't believe what I was hearing just to have this man negate my experience and basically TELLING me of my wrongs when he has NO CLUE what he is even talking about he wasn't even there!!!!! After a rain fall of tears came down my face as i'm trying to make sense of his arrogant ignorant statements I realized he's simply in this profession to make money no love no human factor no nurture no kindness, you're just a passing number swipe your card get him paid shut up and get out. Only great thing about that experience was Nurse Jean aka MJ shes an angel. This experience was out of this world and eye opening he also suggested I can get my files transferred because clearly he wasn't fit and probably didn't expect such a strong reaction. NEVER SETTLE !! Dr. Hawrylyshyn is my doctor for over 12 years. He performed the C-section when my son was born. He told me that there was no need from the medical point of view but he'll do whatever it takes to make sure I am comfortable since I had previous miscarriages. I was in the hospital for a week and he was checking on me and the baby occasionally. I haven't seen any other doctor coming and checking on other the mom in the room I was sharing. Every time I saw him for a follow up on my menopause he patiently answers my questions and makes sure there a no concerns before I leave his office. Sometimes there is a wait, but I don't mind knowing that he gives the same attention to all his patients. I would recommend Dr. Hawrylyshyn anytime.
