I wish so badly that I had read these ratings prior to using Dr. Gerber for my first pregnancy. My son is 9 months old now and I'm still dealing with issues with mistakes both he and his staff made. Insurance claims were filed incorrectly and now my son's circumcision has to be fixed because it was not done correctly originally.
My gut instinct told me to move doctors well into my third trimester, but for some reason I never pulled the trigger. I received a call at 37 weeks pregnant from his "office manager," aka his rude daughter, insisting that we owed them $500 prior to delivery and $250 in advance for circumcision. These terms had never been discussed with me regardless of the fact that I had been requesting time to review financial commitments for months.
Dr. Gerber was constantly discussing personal matters during my appointments, telling me about how the nurses could be catty and that a former employee had stolen from the practice. Not things that a patient ever needs to be aware of. And I do not expect to listen to ranting about your financial situation while I am on the exam table...
The day of delivery was a whirlwind, I scheduled an induction and it was going so well! I made it to 9cm very quickly and the nurses were impressed saying that my body was definitely ready to have this baby. Conveniently at 11:45am my progress "stopped," right at the time the Gerber had to leave for a hysterectomy. Nothing happened for hours until he returned around 4:00 and suddenly the gates of heaven opened and I started dilating again. My understanding much later is that he chose to stop my pitocin IV to stay on his own schedule. My son was born in what they described as a state of shock and had to be taken away by a group of nurses in order for his lungs to be pumped and to start his breathing, he was stuck in the birth canal for too long.
Now I have had to continue dealing with the incorrectly filed insurance claims. My husband and I worked hard to pay off all of the medical bills in a very timely manner. Now, months later, I am receiving bills from the hospital stating that my insurance has retracted payment on my claims. Come to find that the doctor's claim was filed on the wrong date, tripping the insurance system to now cut off their payment. I've spent hours on the phone explaining my situation to representatives as I continue to receive retracted bills.
I could continue on, but there is simply no reason. His practice closed due to poor business practices and all clients were informed in an extremely unprofessional mass email stating that being a single-physician practice is too hard and that there were too many outstanding bills because his patients wouldn't pay him. In the meantime, I will be accompanying my son tomorrow as he is re-circumcised at 9.5 months old.
