He is usually running behind but he will spend as much time with you as you need. He is kind, compassionate, and extremely knowledgeable about medications.

Very knowledgeable and kind. Fair. Really knows ocd and other anxiety disorders and can identify them in difficult to diagnose patients when other psychiatrists can’t figure it out. Changed my life for the better.

A compassionate doctor who genuinely cares about his patients. Long intake in order to determine your condition and remembers details in subsequent visits.

Dr. Van Ameriingen perscribed a benzodiazepine which later stopped working. I don't know if he knew the danger of this drug or was just looking for a quick fix.

I have been with Dr Van A for over 25 years. I had to miss two appointments due to emergencies and he tells his assistant to tell me that I should go to my family doctor now knowing that I don't have one and need my meds or will possibly faint. He gets you hooked on medication then abandons you because he is having a bad day! Looks like he is falling asleep, has bashed my family, has caused some serious problems with my work, . He never suggests coping strategies that will last a lifetime, just puts you on so many meds. I have been told to change from him for years because he is old-fashioned and who over prescribes medication, etc

Honestly, I had a bad experience with another doctor before seeing Dr. Van Ameringen and its like a breath of fresh air with the guy.

Hes calm, cool and compassionate. Very soft spoken and very knowledable. All qround extraordinarily helpful.

Also, Ive yet to wait for the guy. He's absolutely THE most punctual doctor Ive ever had the pleasure of seeing.

If you end up in his office, you're in for an excellent experience.

Dr. Van Ameringen is a really caring doctor. I've been a patient for some time. He spends as much time as you need, which as another commenter said, makes the waiting time long at times, but just knowing that he will spend it with me if I need the time, I do not mind waiting. It's our mental health and it's important.
