Worst neurologist ever!!! The past week, I had an appt for 2:30... And didn't get in til 4:45... He reads out of books from the 80-90's and does NOT communicate eye to eye with you.. His most common words are sure..mhmm... Sure. ... Please do not waste your time.. He is NOT SPECIALIZED IN EPILEPSY... And knows next to nothing.. During my past appt he perscribed me a new drug "Keppra" and as I was asking questions he told me he has to go home for dinner .. Meanwhile he only talked to me for 10 min but YET he sees paitents for hours... He does not read my eegs or mris to me .. HE DOES NOT CARE .. Useless piece of****.. I wait 2 hours every visit.. I've had epilepsy since I was 4 .. And 3 years ago I had my first gran mal seizure.. He just put me on lamotragine.. Doesn't work..my memory is basically done because of this drug.. I am on Keppra and the side effects are depression and mood swings.. Please take my word.. And do NOT WASTE YOUR time!!!!!!!!!

I found Dr Maher to be an odd fella, difficult to speak with and understand at times. Speaks like a robot with no emotion in his voice. HOWEVER, I did find him to be very helpful with finding out what was wrong with my back. MRI and CT scan was done as well as a nerve conduction test on my L arm and both my legs. The specialist conducting the electronic nerve test was very nice. HOWEVER Dr Maher did the needle test (2nd half of nerve conduction test)and he jammed the needle in different spots throughout my arm and legs without any notice to me of where he was headed next with the needle. I cried in pain with every jab of the needle ((a little compassion, and telling me where the needle was going next would have been nice, after all I am human))I was not impressed when I left. I do RECOMMEND him for his knowledge and medial tests he does, BUT DON'T LET HIM TOUCH YOU WITH A NEEDLE, AND DON'T EXPECT SMALL TALK OR COMPASSION as he speaks and acts like a robot, but he is thorough w tests.

My world change 5 months ago. I woke up and felt strange, then very weird headache hit. I was sick all morning, vertigo, balance, gone. Became very weak as did my voice and lost fine motor skills. (which I have to have for work). Numbness and tingling in hands. Now I still am coping. Had MRI and showed Atrophy of the Brain. Possible Cerebellum involvement. Then had appointment with Dr. Maher. He first confirmed I am on Disability. Then became rushed, I speak slow now with trouble finding the words. He said not to think about the Frontal Lobe Atrophy. Just hoped for an answer about my motor skills, to continue with my business to become financially healthy. The Dr., said I was slow and he is behind on schedule. I feel I'm a waste of time and medical care. The Dr., test a few reflexes and limb strength. My one side was weak and said I know you can do better than that. I wasn't heard. Diagnosis; Headaches. So No business, walks, fun, just do big garage sale. I'm only 51

I have been a patient of Dr. Mahar's since 2001. Other than having to wait too long prior to my scheduled appointment I have nothing but but good things to say. He is a lovely man and his staff are friendly and very personable.

Every negative comment posted on this site about this doctor is true. After waiting 14 months to see this guy my appointment time was AN HOUR AND A HALF LATE. Furthermore, during my appointment he left in the middle to take a 20 minute phone call. He hands out MRI's and EEG's unnecessarily and pays very little attention to what the patient says. Despite scheduling an appointment pertaining to my vehicular licensing, Dr Maher and I spent more time talking about my sex life and doing a full physical exam than talking about my actual neurological disorder. I felt extremely uncomfortable during the physical (which I know my GP did NOT request) My appointment ended with me recieving a requistition for a pregnancy test and a prescription for folic acid when I'M NOT PREGNANT. He doesn't care about how his decisions effect his patient's lives and seems to enjoy controlling the patients rights. I cannot convey how insensitive and unprofessional this man is. Should not be allowed to practise.

I was referred to Dr. Maher two years ago, for the possibility that he may investigate further into Neurological issues I am having problems with. That’s right “Neurological issues” , as Dr Maher is a Neurologist. Although sympathetic to other health issues a person may have, Dr Maher can help you with problems you may be having with a Neurological disorder / injury or disease. If it’s your first time attending, do what I do, write down symptoms you are having on a note and take it with you….keep it brief and to the point. As far as rating Dr J. Maher, 10 out of 10 in my books. Just a note to keep in mind…they are professionals in their field of expertise …we are not, so do more LISTING than talking. I found Dr Maher, kind, considerate, VERY thorough, and having a very polite demeanour towards a patient. He has tested, diagnosed, and prescribed helpful medication, as well as explained to me (in Terms I can understand) what the issues are with my Neurological health problems.

I have been seeing Dr Mahar for over 2 years and dont agree with the bad ratings that have been given. I found him very compassionate and listend well. Ordered tests and after told me that I had had more than the one stroke that I thought I had. Gave me meds that have helped immensely. Has explained everything to me in words that I could understand when I have been confused by the medical termonolgy

I was referred to Dr Maher 12 months ago- after reading comments here I asked my Dr if he could refer me out of town as I had no confidence in a diagnosis by this Dr. I was encouraged to give him a chance and if I wasn't happy I could be referred to someone else. I did not recognise him from the descriptions here. He was kind yet professional, knowledgeable and courteous. None of the descriptions here fit him. If you have been referred to this Dr - do not be afraid as I was, it was unfounded and wrong of me to judge him by other people. His staff too - have always been helpful and professional.

This man is the worst example of human compassion we have ever met. Due to my husband's many health issues we deal with a great many physicians during the years and this one is by far the worst. He is demeaning and condescending and makes you feel like an idiot . When he doesn't want to answer our questions he turns his back and reads old history on his computer about my husband from many years ago instead of addressing our current concerns . My husband was so upset after his last appointment that he never wants to go back again and will choose NO treatment over having the stress of being treated by an idiot like this doctor

Treated my 78 year old mother like a child, like she wasn't even in the room. Refused to look at her, and refused to explain in layman terms something we didn't understand. At first I thought he just didn't have a personality but by the end of the session (waited 45 for a 7 min appt)I knew he was just rude and patrinizing. He ordered more tests and "would" not give us reasons why he wanted the tests. He just kept reading the last meetings notes to us.my mother became distraught. When we left we complained to the staff, refused to book the next appt in 6 months. No one in their right mind would expose their loved ones to this Monster. Our medical system is in a sad state if we think we need to tolerate doctors that are rude, indifferent, and patrinizing to their clients. The 'nurse" we were exposed to prior to our appt was also abrasive and grating. There was one women behind the counter that showed a caring personality and supports us with clear, concise, friendly answers.
