I find him to be caring, friendly, and competent. The office staff can be a problem, though, as others have complained about, and the wait times are often very long. It is also difficult to get an appointment within a reasonable amount of time.

My parents went to him. Not impressed. Sad when a geriatric dr. Makes his 85 year old sick patient wait for an hour!

He used to be a good doc, but now I would not recommend him to anyone. His office staff is one of the worst, most rude group of women I have ever encountered. They actually had the nerve to argue with a hospice nurse about prescibing pain meds for a terminally ill patient, but never actually asked the Dr. Regardless, Dr. Sheppell seems into shrugging things off lately, instead of actively searching for a diagnosis and treatment. Not sure what is going on with him, but my entire family has now changed Drs. He isn't the greatest Dr, then add in his office staff? Forget it!

My mother was in the hosptial and like other posts say he is nice but that is where it ends. He pushes everything off to specialists and promised many things like a private room in the hosptial and never followed through. He was unavailable and took forever to answer questions while my mom was in the hospital. I don't want her to go back to him again but he is convenient for her to go to. The wait time is ridiculous in the office. My father 84 had to wait in the waiting room for over an our SICK. There has to be better care out there.

We found Dr Sheppell to be very caring and understanding. We haven't had to wait that long in the office compared to some other Drs. We actually like the fact that he WILL send us to a specialist if he feels it necessary. Too many Drs try to manage specialist care on their own thanks to HMOs, and it's refreshing to have a Dr who is not afraid to refer out. We had a very complicated medical issue come up recently and Dr Sheppell handled it well.

If you have a geriatric patient under his care, BE AWARE, you need to be on site with your loved one at the hospital, OR, you loved one may suffer! Working our of Saint Clare's in Denville, our experience was that he does not return calls to staff quickly-God help anyone in an emergency! In addition, he pawns off consults and medication orders to other specialties. He is a "nice" man, however, a warning-nice does not help a patient. A sense of urgency, and direct involvement is required. As a primary care physician who admitted my family member, he is not performing the part of patient advocate. "DO NOT HARM" is not just for NOT injuring patients, it is also for keeping patients safe and comfortable if it is in the physicians capability. I am not working when I am with my family member, but yet must make sure I request intervention. That's a problem! I will make sure my family member never has this experience again-if he survives this hospitalization!

I am alo a geriatric patient of 5 years. dr. sheppell''s practice has changed a lot. i was informed that my insurance was not taken as of 3/1/08. if i keep my appointment in april i will have to pay full price despite the fact that my insurance pays him 100%. his hours have changed with one day not seeing patients in the office. a new group has joined called pain management and they will be sharing time in the office. how will his present patients be able to get an appointment? i also agree with the geriatric patient that he mostly refers you to specialists and has had several part time doctors so that you don''t know who will be seeing you if and when you do get an appointment. i am very disappointed in the change in his office and since i will no longer be able to be his patient because of my insurance i will have to start looking for another doctor at this stage in my life.

Doctor is friendly, caring, follows up. Most negative is waiting time in waiting room and exam room. Also negative - big turnover of foreign doctors in practice with him Sells vitamins and weight loss products

Dr. Sheppell has been my primary physician for at least 5 years. He is very knowledgable and caring - but it seems that he has stopped practicing medicine. The past 2 years, every time that I have seen him, he has insisted that I go see a specialist, no matter what my health issue waas. The only thing he will do is renew prescriptions. It is very hard to get an appointment to see him, it takes weeks. If you want to see his associate, it takes less time -- but he seems to have a new third-world associate every year, and not all of them are very good. One of them was sued for malpractice a year or two ago.

Dr. Sheppell is a nice doctor and seems to know alot. I have been a patient for several years. Unfortunately, I have had some difficulty with the office staff It also seems like the practice has grown lately and there too many patients waiting to see him. He has had several other doctors in the practice, but none seem to stay very long.
