He doesn’t listen to his patients, he rushes them, and he is very arrogant. I don’t recommend him

Stay for away. Consulted with him for rectal cancer. He was supposed to do the surgery with assist from general surgeon who had never done this operation. Instead, the general surgeon operated on me under Heilizers supervision. Disastrous results followed. I am now permanently disabled. Never heard from Heilizer after surgery. Stay away.

We scheduled hernia surgery at a medical center on Western & Touhy in the city. When he showed up he got into an argument with the staff about not having a scrub in his size. He walked out with a word to us and then the staff said he was called away on an emergency. Unfortunately we heard the whole thing. Wasted consultation fee and an 2 trips of over an hour into the city. When I asked for our consultation fee back he lied and said he and his office called to explain/reschedule. They did not.VERY unprofessional.

Works fast, but will stop to answer any questions. Knows what he's doing and gets the job done.

I went in to see Dr. Heilizer as an urgent patient, last minute necessity. He saw me within 20 minutes and did an AMAZING job of telling me what was wrong with me and treated me on the spot. He was very sure of his decision and did a great job of explaining my options to me as well as answering my billions of questions. I would highly recommend him, I think he is very knowledgeable, delightful and cares about his job. Especially as a last minute patient I was VERY satisfied!

This doctor is probably the best colorectal surgeon in Chicago. I have had procedures by Northwestern Gastro Doc's and they suck (although they were nice in office visits). Surgery they botched 1 (could not walk for weeks) and had horrific bedside manner on another. Dr. Heilizer's procedure allowed me to walk next day (yeah, some pain), and was at work 4 days later (only needed tylenol for that!). The only thing I thought was weird was the old 50's commercials in the waiting room (something I am sure does help keep his costs down).

He's a doctor who could care less about his patients. Rude, arrogant, and unhelpful. Willing to perform complex surergies he's done only 'a couple of times' without a second thought based on my consultation with him. There's a reason he's already rated so lowly. Stay away.
