Terrible physician, should no longer practice. He doesn’t like to treat patients of color and is ver sloppy with his procedures very rough

Dr. Gretz is a very focused, detailed, professional experienced surgeon. Even only after meeting with him twice, I had complete confidence in him, which was verified as soon as I woke up from surgery in the recovery room with no pain and my mass removed. I’m 2 weeks out from surgery and I’m completely amazed how well I recovered. Dr. Gretz is a brilliant doctor and surgeon, I highly recommend him!

I thought finding my doctor would be easy: just Google “top gynecologic oncologist NYC,” and one or two names would be all over the first page of results. But that’s not the case. So I asked a dozen savvy friends/relatives for recommendations, which yielded 15 names (no repeats), one of which was Dr. Gretz. I researched those 15 oncologists and their hospitals, plus read the “best doctors” lists, continued Googling other names, subscribed to an online paid doctor-rating service, and even reached out—randomly—to the author of an ovarian cancer blog. Dr. Gretz was the front-runner from beginning to end. I would do another flurry of research on him when it became clear I’d need surgery, and was again confident in what I found.

I found Dr. Gretz to be what all my research had indicated: a highly experienced and talented oncologist/surgeon, with a stellar reputation. I’d highly recommend him to any of my family and friends. A five-star rating, for sure.

What the research couldn’t tell me—what I could only learn on my own—is that Dr. Gretz is also very patient in answering questions and breaking down complicated medical situations into understandable pieces. I was often impressed—floored, actually—in how unrushed our conversations were while I asked a ton of questions. I hadn’t ever received this unrushed attention from any other doctor, including the family physician I’ve used for decades.

Whenever I was scared or worried about this whole cancer thing or my upcoming surgery, I’d circle back to my unshakeable confidence in Dr. Gretz’s reputation, skills, talents and experience after all my research and appointments/calls with him. Those were the most important things to me. The fact that I liked his personality as well was just a bonus.

I think he is wonderful doctor. he is kind and takes s his time answering questions. I had bought my husband and best friend to the appointment and was just great. the staff is also fantastic!!

Dr. Gretz presented as being passionate about his work and immersing himself in providing the best treatment plan for me. He was totally focused on the medical issue at hand, which was exactly what I needed and desired. He is highly recommended by physicians and his excellent skills are well known. His intellectualization appears to be a way for him to maintain some emotional distance from the difficult situations he handles; however, his evident relief and happiness for a successful outcome clearly came across to me and my family when we sat with him after the surgery results came in. I would recommend him without hesitation.

He is a brilliant surgeon who is highly competent. I have spoken to other doctors who are in awe of his skill. He may not be as emotionally supportive as one might want but I found his sheer competence to be so reassuring. He answered my questions. He helped me with my problem when nobody else could.

He didn't have time to explain things to me, he let his assistant do that. He didn't want to answer questions, seemed annoyed. Let an intern finish a biopsy that left me bleeding and in terrible pain, intern didn't understand why it hurt so bad since it was 2 weeks after surgery. I waited 3 weeks of constant phone calls for biopsy results. His assistant never emailed like she said. She said she was the liason to the doctor and she would answer any and all questions at the end of the day. NEVER HAPPENED. Doctor finally returned call and was very curt and downright nasty when I questioned his plan of treatment,as if I had no right to know. When a woman is faced with cancer, the last thing she needs is someone that doesn't have time for her or has the attitude like he's better. He should be a vet because he doesn't like to answer questions. I never met such an arrogant oncologist before. Shame on him for treating patients like this. I won't be back.
