Dr. Silva is a brilliant physician. She demonstrates her compassion for her patients through her unfailing dedication to excellence in medical care. She is a professional through and through, and does not waste a precious moment on idle chit-chat. I, for one, would not have it any other way. Dr. Silva is an asset to each and every one of her patients, to KGH, and to health care as a whole.

If she needs to distance her feelings, she can at least censor her brutal nature in front of the parents/children or move away from the bedside. Her knowledge may be there, but her people skills are extremely poor, given her specialty. She is diagnosing our children with cancer, not a common cold. A human approach does make a difference. Wish there was a better option here.

I agree that Dr. Silva can be curt and abrasive at times, but given the field that she is in, you have to distance yourself or you would have a nervous breakdown. When my son was diagnosed on Christmas eve, she called in favours to have procedures performed. She is available day or night, no matter what the issue may be. She never passes the buck to a resident. Given a choice between either bedside manner or an amazing knowledge of pediatric oncology, I will ALWAYS take the latter. She has my utmost respect.
