Dr. Bethune saved my life. He performed an 8 hour operation (my fifth)which culminated in a full recovery after almost 2 years of rehab. His expertise and talent is rivaled by his bedside manner and honesty. If he's scheduled to take care of you, you're in the very best of hands.

my husband had a vascular wedge procedure done April of 2008, we found Dr Bethune very honest in answering all of our questions and a very excellent surgeon my husband was released from hospital and has no other problems since the surgery a little over a year ago, we also found he was very polite and made us feel very comfertatble with my husbands condititon, he was very up front and honest and told us that what they had found on his lung from the ct scan could be scar tissue but because of his age being only 40 at the time it was very unlikely, it was more then a 90 percent chance it was a b9 tumour or cancer, well he was right it turned out to be a b9 tumour and he is fine now, Dr Bethune also explained all of our options to us very clearly in a manner that we understood. he is a marvelous surgeon and person I would recommend him to anyone

I found Dr. Bethune to be helpful, honest and thorough as was his staff. My sternum was cut from top to bottom, the scaring is minor and healed rapidly.

Dr Bethune performed a Laparoscopic Hiatal Hernia repair on me 3 years ago and has cured my acid reflux, and constant indigestion. I am a new man thanks to him, and am extremely greatful! He is friendly, professional, explains the procedures well to make sure that you completely understand what you will be facing. He does not rush his patients out the door. Dr. Bethune is an asset to the QEII Hospital and the Maritime Region. I would highly recommend him to anyone for an internal medicine consultation or surgery. He will not disappoint you! Just one thing to note, He is Extremely Busy! and you may have to wait several weeks/ months in order to get an office booking.

He sent me home from the hospital with untreated pneumonia. Family drove me from the VG to my local doctors. They started me on IV antibiotics. Based on the biopsy alone he told my family and me that my lungs are normal. My lungs are not normal. I have been sick and receiving the medical run around since childhood. Before having surgery he looked at my chest CT-scans and told my family and me how terrible they looked and that I should already be the transplant list. On a follow up appointment he told me that despite poor chest CT-scans and pulmonary function tests, and despite the fact that oxygen is necessary 24/7 that my lungs were normal. They are not. A double lung transplant is necessary for a rare lung condition. Dr. Bethune is a fine surgeon for a majority of adults, but he needs to think outside the box and recognise that one normal lung biopsy result does not necessarily mean the condition is cured or that one has normal lungs. Some illnesses do not go by the book.
