At the urgent care I go too, I have the pleasure of being seen by Dr. Martha Sims. She is very caring, helpful and listens to the reasons why I am there. She is full of information and is always willing to help anyway she can.

Biography

Dr. Martha Sims is a general practitioner practicing in the West Valley since 2006. She graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in Biology and a minor in Spanish. She worked for 2 years during that time on gene transfer involving the bacterium Bacillus subtilis. She then Graduated from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 2003 and participated in an international research internship in Spain involving gene transfer in a thermophilic bacterium. She attended Internal Medicine Residency for 2 years at St Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, here in Phoenix, Arizona, now known as Dignity Health. She presented her research involving the bacterium Taenia Solium and Cystercercosis infections at the American College of Physicians Abstract Competitions for Residents. During and shortly after residency, Dr. Sims experienced years of illness with a relatively unknown and under-researched area of medicine. This gave her a unique perspective on the impact of chronic illness on the mind, body, and spirit. It gave her insight into its impact on the family structure, the economic and emotional burden of illness. It gave her a unique opportunity to relate with many of the patients with whom she has established a doctor-patient relationship. It is with this experience and knowledge that she has a perspective that allows her to know what her patients are experiencing and to have a relationship with her patients that is centered on respect and compassion. After residency, she went on to work in Internal Medicine and Urgent Care Medicine. As a result, she saw the need for more providers in the West Valley and for more continuous and comprehensive medical care for patients. Besides being a practicing physician, Dr Sims is married with one child and enjoys spending time with her family going on excursions exploring Arizona's wonderful natural resources. She is a devoted wife, mother, and physician.
