Great doctor, expert in GI cancers, established the protocol for treating these cancers. Nurses at the cancer center at RIH are top notch!

I would hands down NEVER recommend Dr. Safran for a number of reasons. Here are a few of them: he has an extremely poor bedside manner, not very knowledgable & was not adequately prepared for patient visits (had not reviewed labs thoroughly), he got offended and "disowned" his patient when we mentioned going to Boston for a second opinion when he said there were no other treatment options and my father's prognosis was "really bad, really bad. Things are going to get ugly." Office is a complete disorganized mess - the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing if you can catch my drift. He pushed his study protocol while minimizing other potential treatment options, and then did not want to admit that adverse reaction after 1st infusion was a result of studied chemo regimen. One of the home infusion chemo preparations was mixed incorrectly and prescribing of antinausea medications was also incorrect on one occasion. The list goes on ....
