I tried to call them and what a short fused person at the other end.I'm scared of this place. Not a good initial experience. I'd recommend better staff.

Dr.Ogilvie scoped both my knee in 2008.I went to my first appointment with a page of questions. He answered them all, very patiently and with a model of a knee to show me exactly what had happened. I found him to be very up front and honest with what I was dealing with. In fact he was very funny and caring in his own way. I actually got to see him just b/f surgery in the OR, I had complication, he was right out there making sure I was ok. You really need to see him as a person and not some arrogant Dr. (that he is being made out to be in these comments) who couldn't care less about his patients. I have met some arrogant Dr. in the past and let me tell you they make Rick seem like a gentle giant. He's just really loud and that can be mistaken as rude or that he is yelling. I highly recommend him if you want a job done 100%. As for his staff they are great! Thanks Dr. Ogilvie, for allowing me to achieve my life long goal BOSTON MARATHON! Your the best!!!!!!!!

I have never seen Dr. Ogilvie as a patient, but I wanted to respond to some of these comments. Some people seem to think that you are either a highly competent a**hole or an amiable ignoramus. There are surgeons out there just as competent as Dr. Ogilvie who are nice to their patients!!! You can have both qualities (competent and nice) in the same doctor - check some of the other orthopedic surgeons in Hamilton/Oakville/Milton for example.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this guy is unbeleivably amazing. I just saw him again a few weeks ago and I can't say enough good things about him. I would and will not trust an orthopedic surgeon as much as I trust him. It's not my place to tell people what surgeon to see but I wish they would research which doctor is the best at the injury they have. People do not understand that all orthopods are not created equal and that they do have a choice. Ogilvie is a pro at ligaments, obviously due to his interest in sports injuries, and ligaments are not a small problem. I have wanted to say something to people many of times about the surgeon they are having operate on them but they probably would not care what I tell them anyway. I only settle for the best and since we are all consumers in the health care market I don't think anyone should settle for less than the best. Just remember it's partially your responsibility to make sure you get the best care possible.

I just want to say I am an operating room nurse and have seen many orthopedic surgeons in my career. First of all everybody out there should be thankful that they live in Canada and can get health care at all. Secondly, surgery is not a popularity contest. Do you want to best “scope” guy (referring to arthroscopic surgery) or not??? Do you take your car to a lousy mechanic because you think he is a good guy? No, you take it to the mechanic who does not B.S. you and who is going to fix you car the best. So treat yourself as well as you would treat your car. You might not like his personality, but, honestly he is considered to be the best around. He is a highly respected professional and I am surprised that so many people go on this website and slander some ones ability that they know nothing about.

Three questions people need to ask themselves: 1. Do you want a "nice" surgeon? 2. Do you want the best surgical "surgeon"? 3. Which do you want more? I respect that Dr. Ogilvie tells it how it is. He may not have been "nice" per se, but then I didn't really care if he's all that nice. I just wanted him to fix me. And, frankly, he's the best there is at "fixing" people. He worked magic on my knees, and for that I'm truly thankful. I'll take a mean doctor who can fix me, over a nice one who can't any day. Some people need to get their medical priorities straight.

this guy is a joke to the profession. I am a 36 yr old female with a disability who was in desperate need of a knee replacement. His exact words to me were "bad luck kid...your headed for a wheelchair". Wonder if he would have said the same to one of his own family members. I hear from staff at The Henderson who used to work with him in the OR at Mac..if his wife only knew what he said to some of his patients she'd be mortified! If your not sports oriented he doesnt' have time of day. He may be a good surgeon..but I think he should think before he speaks. For some people like myself who are in such high hopes of being helped and he says things like that, he should be ashamed. I work in a Psychiatric Medical Office that DOES NOT happen in our office. Just incase your wondering...2 yrs later I'm still not in a wheelchair and I have a new knee!

I was sent to Ogilvie by another ortho man whom couldn't help me. After one visit with him, he compared me to the state of Wisconsin??? then proceeded to pass me another ortho name on paper and said they might help better, I have been on crutches for 6 weeks and for him not to at least call the other ortho man on my behalf was nuts. My family doctor was furious that he would not have called and tried to get me in as his call would work to my advantage over hers. I was told I need a knee replaced so it is not like I don't have a problem and its all in my head. I just feel Dr. Ogilvie and the Ontario health care system have let me down. I am thoroughly discusted with the whole scene after 6 weeks and counting on crutches and I am no farther ahead than I was 6 weeks ago. Maybe the dr. should have a little compassion in some situations...opps I forgot most ortho drs don't seem to know what compassion is.....

Dr. Ogilvie performed sugery on my knee and that is why I am able to walk today. I just went to see him a couple of weeks ago and I still give him nothing but praise. He performed sugery on my daughter and my son. My son was in an accident and they thought that they may have to amputate his arm until one of the surgeons said that they had to Dr. ogilvie in to perform sugery. He was at the hospital within 1/2 hour (you could tell he was sleeping)and managed to put his elbow back together. I would not let any other surgeon touch my family. People need to understand how lucky they are when they see him. Not many other surgeons in North America can do what he does. His rate of failure is one of the lowest you will ever see. If he makes a mistake it means that the injury was something so severe that no surgeon in the world could not fix it. Count your blessings and know that you are in the best hands possible.
