I saw Dr. Stryker for a second opinion on a diagnosis I had received. He gave me specific reasons to consider a different surgical option than had been suggested to me by the first doctor. He made me feel that not only could he solve my immediate problems but that he had a plan for addressing future problems that I might encounter. He has always made me feel confident that I will be taken care of. He is a knowledgable, skillful surgeon and also accessible and compassionate.

Dr Stryker performed a “routine” surgery on me several years ago. He was incredibly professional, took excellent care of me and had wonderful follow up. Two weeks ago, I was in the ER with appendicitis. I had to have emergency surgery. Dr Stryker wasn’t on call but was in the ER and recognized my name as a former patient. He assembled his team, booked an OR and got me into surgery within minutes. Apparently, my appendix was a few hours from bursting and he was able to remove it without any complication. After my surgery, Dr Stryker’s follow up care was incredible. When pathology came back, we found out that I had a precancerous tumor in my appendix that, had it ruptured, could have had devastating consequences. He also told me that I had an incidentaloma on my adrenal gland that required investigation. He gave me the names of two specialists, helped me secure appointments and has been instrumental in helping me navigate this rare condition. Had Dr Stryker not gone above and beyond to perform my initial appendectomy, I’m not sure what my prognosis would have been. I think he is amazing and could not recommend him more highly.

I was diagnosed with Stage III Rectal Cancer after a routine colonoscopy examination . Needless to say my worst fear had come to a reality that day. After consultation with an oncologist in Chicago I was recommended to Dr. Steven Stryker for a surgical consultation . I made the appointment to meet Dr. Stryker . The examination and consultation with Dr. Stryker was a day I will remember . I was shell shocked after the diagnoses of Rectal Cancer and after a few moments with Dr Stryker I had believed that I had found an EXCELLENT SURGEON in my battle with this disease. Dr. Stryker explained his surgical procedure in a most comforting yet well informed manner . After leaving his office after the initial consultation I was GREATLY RELIEVED in knowing I had a surgeon who saw me a patient and not just another number. After my radiation sessions I then had my Rectal surgery performed by Dr. Stryker . He was there in the surgical recovery room at my bedside when I awoke assuring with the utmost kindness that the surgery went well in his view. Dr. Stryker visited me each day I was in the hospital following the surgery making sure I was on the mend again giving me his caring & professional attention. While in the hospital there were patients who only saw there're surgeons after the surgery just once with Dr. Stryker it was every day. After leaving the hospital with an temporary elostomy pouch I went home to recover. Eventually after some months Dr. Stryker then performed the elostomy closure surgery. The day of the surgery there was Dr. Stryker at the hospital to greet me with his caring & professional demeanor that I've come to expect. After surgery AGAIN Dr. Stryker was in the recovery room at my bedside assuring me that the process went well in his usual GREAT CARING MANNER that I've come to expect. Each day after the closure prosedure in the hospital Dr. Stryker was there checking to see how I was progressing after surgery. After being discharged I went home to begin the chemotherapy sessions as part of my final treatment program. It has been 2 yrs. since my surgery and my Cancer is in REMISSION !!!! I am TOTALLY GRATEFUL & BLESSED to have had Dr. Steven Stryker wth me by my side in my battle with this Cancer. I am FOREVER GRATEFUL for a Surgeon who treated me not only a patient but a CLOSE FRIEND !!!!!! Gratefully S. Martin
