Dr. Walling and his colleagues performed a 23 hour neuro surgery on my daughter. Her tumour was removed successfully and we are incredibly grateful for this brilliant pediatric neurosurgeon. He is also incredibly kind, thoughtful and knowledgeable! Sad when she turns 21 and we leave the IWK.

I have heard nothing but fantastic things about Dr Walling. My son suffered a severe TBI after being hit by a car. A week into our admission Dr Walling took over. I only got to speak to him once, but I could tell her knee his stuff. I wish I had more opportunity to speak with him. My son is doing much better than they all thought, I love when they get it wrong, but so thankful we have these incredible physicians when needed

Not one day goes by that I am not reminded of my misplaced trust in Dr. Walling and the dire consequences in my health that followed.

Not a day goes by without tear inducing pain levels that I am not reminded of you. 3 in 1 million. That was how rare my colloid cyst was. A 2 hour surgery that saw me stay on the surgical table for 9 hours. You are my biggest regret.

There must be another Dr. Simon Walling who is a neuro surgeon..
I am reading all these stellar reviews and my experience was anything but. 15 years down the road and I have nothing but regrets starting with the QEII and Infirmary. Not long after the brain surgery I experienced a 100lb weight gain in about 10 weeks. The weight has been added to and as of this morning 240 pounds from my lifetime adult weight of 115 pounds. As a point of reference I climbed mountains and now a flight of stairs is a challenge..
Sleep was multiple 10 to 30 min naps over a 9 hour with periods of wide awake in between. I developed serious endocrine problems like a tumour on my right adrenal gland, a swollen thymus, multiple infections, chronic pain and muscle spasms that last for weeks. 8 daily extra strength Tylenol barely takes the edge off. A spine that is compressing and a swollen fatty liver and lesions on my pancreas. I developed high blood pressure and anxiety. I spent my life savings, had to walk away from my career and could not be there for my aging mother or sister stricken with cancer. Both have died. No matter how many times I asked for help I was repeatedly told nothing was wrong with me. I was yelled at, played and lied too and about.
Not all by Dr. Walling. Now I have stopped asking for help.
So why this review? As odd as this will sound I am grateful. I am grateful for all of it because of the invaluable lessons it provided. I have compassion and empathy now for people who tell me they suffer from extreme anxiety to the point of hiding in their closets. I give them a hug and tell them I understand and we sit and talk. I've read enough about anxiety that its a beast I have tamed. I have come to realize how much ego is destructive and sadly common in health care. How it feeds on insecurities and fears. How it can justify just about any behaviour and thing.
I, more than any period in my life now appreciate honesty and that almost unheard of accountability. I have seen it (it wasn't in health care) recently. I have come to realize that my self worth is not defined by the fact that I wear a 3x clothing size but its instead shaped by my thoughts and moods then its all good. Truth be told tho, if I could do it all over again I would have chosen the Montreal General. I really did not deserve what happened to me. Nobody does.

Dr.walling and Dr. Mcneely were so amazing with our son he was terrified and they made him feel safe .so kind and caring all while being so professional...Dr.walling always made our boy smile and feel so safe and calm even while doing some major invasive things to him ....plots puffy tumor on his forehead was the final diagnosis ..we were so scared it was going to be worse than what it was ...even though that was bad enough

Dr. Walling is an excellent neurosurgeon. I have been a patient for the last 5 years for an acoustic neuroma. Had 2 surgeries. Follow up care is amazing from the time of surgery to check ups. I can't thank him enough for what his has done for me and continues to do for me.
