I have been a patient of Dr. Goldsmith for 31 years .I started with him in my early 20's .He has always been available when I need him .Call hours every morning always returns a call picks up messages every 2 hours on the week end and calls you back . Anytime he refers you out you are treated with absolute care and kindness because he is so well respected . When I've needed help for family members that are not his patient's he gives me a name and they have been so well cared for and able to get an appointment because he allows you to use his name . For the people who don't care for him I don't even know what to say because there is no reason to stay with a dr. for all these years that doesn't take care of you and we have had MAJOR HEALTH ISSUES so all I can say is you missed the oppurtunity for amazing care ... In 31 years I have rarely waited more than 10-15 minutes and he has never rushed me and answered every question . It is my privelige to have him as my Physician .

I am not a doctor. Dr. Goldsmith IS - and one of the BEST! Thus, I can rely on him and trust his judgment. That's just what I need, and have never been disappointed. His gruff and irreverent exterior is very funny, and really does not hide a caring and kind soul. (I was once at a dinner party for 8; three were medical docs -- 6 of us were his patients. ALL of us felt so lucky to have him take the good care that he does of us!)

He is the best internist. He is really concerned about your well being. He wants you to take care of yourself and is excellent with follow-up and getting you to the right specialist. He is an excellent at diagnosing a problem. His call in time in the morning is an excellent way to ask your questions. He really listens to what you are saying. He is willing to try different medications or let you try to wean off medications. He has a great sense of humor. I would highly recommend him.

Some of the reviewers on this site are just "soft" and "overly sensitive". Dr. Goldsmith is an excellent, old school doctor. He will nag you (in a positive way) to get blood tests, colonoscopys and whatever other preventative tests you should have to live a long happy life. He insists you show up for annual exams and do the little things to take care of yourself. He is conservative with medications as a good doctor should be. His connections to the best area specialists are second to none and he is intolerant of having his patients wait extended periods to see these specialists. They seem to know who he is and often make accommodations to get his patients appointments sooner than later. Can he be arrogant? Maybe a bit. Is he funny? I think so. Does he care? You bet. When you really need a great doctor for a serious issue, none better. If you want to be pampered and coddled like your visits to the spa at the Ritz, go somewhere else. I'm a male 20+year patient BTW.

Indeed Dr Goldsmith is arrogant, but for good reason. He is medically BRILLIANT, incredibly perceptive with examinations and never ever dismisses that complaint that may be of real concern to your health. Goldsmith is connected and respected in the Boston medical community, a referral from him has always got me to the right DR. If you're looking for a physician that allows you to behave as if you yourself have the Harvard degree and 30 years of experience, go elsewhere. If you want someone with the maximum ability to treat you see Philip Goldsmith. Unfortunately his administrator is a bit of a pain in the you know what.

Arrogant. Wouldn't answer my questions, but had smart-a** replies. Really unprofessional and upsetting.

Dr. Goldsmith was arrogant, and was terrible at responding to questions - he is one fo those docotrs who does not like patients who try to understand the issues and ask questions. Also was very unhelpful when needed most - just as another reviewer wrote.

Dr. Goldsmith came highly recommended to me and has been an excellent primary care physician. His administrative assistant is also very pleasant, efficient and professional.

Dr. Goldsmith does not want to work with you on your health. You can never get a phone call to him during the day (which i understand) BUT why then while i am there or others who i know are his patients say their appointments are constantly interrupted by his stockbroker, insurance agent or any other personal phone calls. He is capable but full of himself. He has the attitude "it is my way or the highway". You do exactly what he says with no input on your own health. He is a good doctor for those who want to hand their health over to someone 100% with no say about what happens to them. He cuts you off in mid sentence and rushes you out the door. However if you don;t want to think or have any say over your health he may be a good choice.
