I come from a medical family, two grandparents, my husband and 2 sons. Waiting for a top retinal specialist Dr. Howard Ying is time well spent. At the same surgery I was able to have a cataract removed first and the Dr. Ying corrected the retinal problem. In my home town on Pennsylvania it would have required 2 separate surgeries at least six weeks apart with the risk of complications from an extra surgery and extra anesthesia. I was warned by another retinal doctor that if I did not have this surgery I would be blind in two years. I am happy to occupy myself in a waiting room for a top specialist. Six weeks post surgery I am seeing much better close than I ever have with the eye that was operated on and every day my vision improves and is expected to improve many more months. My husband who is a respected neurosurgeon noticed how old and so irrelevant the 2 prior reviews are. He is very impressed with Dr. Ying.

His advice was detrimental to my visual health as he didn't tell me relevant info I needed to properly care for myself after surgery. He also misdiagnosed me, which I found out later. A great topper to a three hour wait and 6 + extra months of suffering due to bad advice! A very poor communicator. I guess the others are right. I would see a different eye doctor if you are looking for a good diagnostic doctor or surgeon. I have seen many doctors and he has been the most detrimental to my health and, in my opinion, treated me the worst due to his confidence in stating an unfounded diagnosis and operating.

This doctor was very unhelpful. Very unkowledgeable. Cannot believe he works at Johns Hopkins. Waited 3 hours to meet him on multiple visits. He did not read my medical history or my medical records. He refused trying any treatment of my symptoms and said didn't believe the advice of other doctors that were also handling my and my wife's care. Terrible treatment. Wish I had my time and money back. Save yourself the ordeal and go to another doctor.
