My Mother used to be his patient for over 28 yrs. At one point, this pill pushing doctor had her on 16 medications without us knowing. When we finally took control of her health 5 years ago, we sought professional help to determine what drugs were necessary and which were not. We were shocked to discover that she was prescribed a hypnotic sleep aid (zopiclone) 26 years ago and was addicted to this for all those years. Even the website for the drug co who makes this drug states that this drug is for short term use only and should not be taken for more than 21 days, yet she was given a refill for 25 years? I took us 13 months to get her off them, with nasty withdrawal symptoms and back to a more normal sleep pattern. We also found out that the majority of her problems were due to an excessive amount of needless drugs. She suffering from so many side effects that could not be easily figured out because of this cocktail prescribed to her blindly over the years. So as each side effect was reported to him he prescribed a new drug to take care of the other side effect which ended up as the perfect “catch 22” We got her from 16 pills to 6 and she feels so much better now. Needless to say we convinced her to lose this representative of big pharma in 2010. So we went to Dr. Kumari and are happy we did.
Fast forward to yesterday. My mother has diverculitis and yesterday she was experiencing bad stomach pains so we took her to emergency. We waited to see a doctor for 3 hours and finally my mom told us to go home and have dinner. Big mistake as we did not know Dr. S was on call. When my mom called for her ride home, we were shocked to discover it was him who treated her. All of research on this gut ailment stated that one should never take a laxative when suffering from an episode of diverculitis. So he told her to not eat any solid food for 4 days and to take a laxative which was given to her at the hospital. Then he prescribed (what a surprise) an antibiotic for her. Not knowing whether to give him the benefit of the doubt or to not get the pills, I decided to ask the pharmacist. She said that mom could have issues with the pills but to take them on a full stomach. I told her about the 4 days of no solid foods and she said it would be 50/50 that her stomach may not like it. She took one pill and still suffering from her pain she had when we took her to the hospital, 3 hours after taking the pills she had a severe headache, audio ringing in her ears, and spent the vast majority of the night on the toilet with cramps and diarrhea that lasted until morning. So how can a so called knowledgeable man prescribe a drug that needs to be taken on a full stomach, to a patient who has to drink only liquids for 4 days? If you are thinking of being his patient, think twice as this guy has only the goal of prescribing as many drugs as he can fit in your belly and does absolutely nothing to find the cause of the ailment and try to fix that before all the pills and their nasty side effects. I hear he will be retiring soon and I say NOT SOON ENOUGH. Take control of your own health people and do not take anyone, not even doctors for their word because in every aspect of life, there are good and bad people in all fields. Ask questions and do your own research with alternatives to a steady diet of harsh chemicals called drugs.
