I recently had surgery performed by Dr. Leyland and his team to correct a septate uterus. As someone who has always been very anxious with the medical world, I was absolutely overwhelmed when the day arrived. Although my interactions with Dr. Leyland were minimal, just before surgery and during my surgery consult, he presented as very kind, and ready to help. This certainly helped me feel a lot more at ease. I cannot say enough about this doctor or any of his team members that have helped me through this. I would recommend this doctor, his team, and McMaster in a heartbeat.

If you have endometriosis or suspected endometriosis, PLEASE do your research before taking what Dr. Leyland prescribes. Lupron is a decimating drug with horrible side effects which last even when you are off. When I mentioned the horrible side effects to the Dr. he quoted a study completed in the 90s and said he has never heard of symptoms like mine. Surprisingly, if you google it, the horrible side effects are too numerous to count and my story is bland compared to the shocking and upsetting stories about Lupron. Then he recommended we can try a roulette of drugs for who knows how long. He would rather have his patients on drugs for years than perform a laparoscopy and confirm endometriosis.
His staff were very helpful and nice.
Just know that there are other treatments out there than spending thousands of dollars on ruining your health.

The staff is ok. Totally not punctual. Dr Leyland knows his job but I guess each patient is treated differently. I have a very complex case of endometriosis and I was told by Dr Leyland there's nothing more he can do other than prescribing Lupron and vissane which is about $1600. together a month. Sigh, these drugs are not even going to cure this disease but would minimize the symptoms associated with endometriosis. I was open to having surgery but was advised I will need a plastic surgeon. Waiting time to even get an appointment with a plastic surgeon is well over 6 months. I was disappointed because taking the pills wouldn't do much and the side effects are alarming. I am frustrated as he's rated as the best and if he cannot help me then who will. Never mind I was booked to have surgery 12 months prior but had to cancel because I got pregnant. CT scans & ultrasound were taken and Dr Leyland knew exactly where the endometriosis was located now all of a sudden it's too complex and cannot be done and pills are my recommendation directly with the pharmaceutical company for a less cheaper cost. Hmmmm!

This wonderful man gave me a chance to have my rainbow baby. I will forever be grateful towards him and his team for placing my lap-TAC a year ago. Thank you for allowing me to bring my baby into this world safely at full term.

I have nothing but respect for Dr. Leyland and his staff. He is very kind, professional and provides a variety of treatment options. I have been working on my condition with Leyland for 4 years with treatments and case studies. Leyland provided some suggestions, and when these treatments didn't work 100%, other were explained thoroughly making sure I was making an educated decision every step of my unfortunate journey. Although not his first choice, he was very supportive when I explained why I chose to do hysterectomy at my young age (childless). His staff was absolutely incredible through the whole 4 year process and I was treated with great care and respect.
Granted, it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows; like a previous comment, one surgery was cancelled at the last minute on my way to the OR. I am grateful for them rescheduling due to an unforeseen staffing gap. I have seen a common routine surgery cost the life of a co-worker due not enough support to fix an unexpected complication. As inconvenient as it was, I truly believe Dr. Leyland will not gamble with my health.

For those who wait longer to see him, please know it's because he will take the additional 10 minutes to answer your questions, or repeat himself when you didn't quite understand.

When he provides alternatives, it is because his knowledge and experience with thousands of patients, research and networking have proven what's effective, including the emotional long term effects.

I am grateful for his help, especially in comparison to other experiences I have heard with other health care practitioners. I have put my health in his hands, and would recommend him to my dearest family and friends.

I have to admit that after reading several reviews of experiences with Dr. Leyland I was nervous to see him. I had read that he really pushes Lupron (which I have tried, and have suffered depression/anxiety with), and after 20 yrs of endo, and too many specialists to count, I prepared myself for battle.
I was so pleasantly surprised when I met him. He was very kind and respectful. My last doctor actually laughed when I told him how terrible Lupron was for me. Dr. Leyland recognized my side effects as severe and as something to be taken seriously. After I explained my history, he immediately agreed that it was not the right thing for me - no pushing at all. I nearly cried when he told me he could give me the the surgery I needed and give me my quality of life back!
I have also heard of long wait times, however my appointment was booked just 3 weeks from the day my doctor referred me. My surgery will be booked 4-6 months out, but the longer wait is due to having to co-ordinate multiple surgeons as I have other organs involved.
Overall, my experience with Dr. Leyland was amazing. He was professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate. I would recommend him to anyone suffering with severe endometriosis.

Horrible experience with this doctor. I had my appointment over a year ago but after reading ANOTHER negative experience with this doctor in my online endometriosis support group tonight I decided to finally share my experience.
I had specialized excision surgery in Atlanta in 2014 with a world-renowned specialist. During that surgery I was diagnosed with suspected adenomyosis (in addition to my endometriosis). I had a pre-sacral neurectomy done during that surgery which helps some but not all. Long story short, I was still have midline uterine cramping months after that surgery. Since I couldn't afford to travel to the US again I went to see a local "specialist" about having a hysterectomy. I went to see Dr. Leyland about having a hysterectomy ( I was 27 with no kids) and was skeptical he would help me based on what I had previously heard from other women. He basically bullied me the whole appointment and I guess wasn't expecting me to be as knowledgeable about my conditions (endo/adeno) as I was. He told me he thought my problem was endo that was left behind by my specialist in the US and that that was causing all my pains. I should mention that he has some weird feud with my specialist in the US and he couldn't understand why I would travel down there for surgery when the endo specialists in Canada are just as good. Yeah....not so much. Plus I didn't feel like waiting a year for surgery. Anyways, he refused to do a hysterectomy on me because of my age and the fact that I didn't have any kids. I told him that I didn't have any quality of life, that I don't even think I want kids, and that this was a well thought out decision and that I was willing to give up the chance of carrying my child if I could have a normal life where I wasn't be ridden. He scoffed and would only offer me Lupron saying that if it helped that my problem was endo and/or adeno and that he would want to keep me on it long term. He claims he has patients on it for as long as 10 years and they're doing great. And if the Lupron doesn't help that my problem isn't endo or adeno related. I never filled the prescription. I left feeling very angry but knew I was right. I ended up seeing another local specialist in Toronto and had a hysterectomy in November 2015. Adeno was found, my midline pain is gone, and I'm so happy I went and saw this other doctor.
His solution to everything is Lupron, since he gets kickbacks from the company that makes it every time he prescribes it. In addition, he was 1 hr and 45 minutes late to my appointment. He was only in the room with me for about 10 minutes. I basically spoke to his nurse the whole time. His knowledge about endometriosis seemed outdated. He only offered me Lupron and that was it. This seems like his trend based on similar feedback I've heard in my endometriosis support group. I would never recommend this "doctor" who claims to be an endometriosis specialist to anyone.

I have mixed feelings about Dr. Leyland. He is one of the main doctors I send people to because of his skill level. I am thinking because I was passed around from over 40+ doctors in 14 yrs I came across as aggressive and wanting answers and to be fixed. I didn't want anymore medication and he does push that especially Lupron. I wouldn't trust myself with anyone else because he is good at what he does and I had deep infiltrating endo and he removed it all. However when it came back it took me 3 yrs for him to actually listen to me because he believed that it couldn't have come back... When I woke up from surgery I was expecting them to find nothing because of his insistence that it wasn't endo and I was told it was deep again in the rectovaginal and pelvic wall. I get that this disease is complicated and more so for some but I don't like that he ignored my pain after my first surgery. That bothered me a lot and caused me to go into a deep depression for 3 yrs thinking it was all in my head. That there is not okay. There are many women who commit suicide because of this disease/medications/pain and disregarding them is inhumane considering he should know how life altering this disease is. I wish he would push more for the patients voices instead of making comments to the press "you can't die from it" when in reality the mental anguish someone goes through trying to be heard is worse than the pain itself. Annette is an Angel and I wish more people were like her. She is the voice to those suffering who can no longer speak for themselves. She deserves the highest award someone can get. She is amazing. I really hope Dr. Leyland reads these because it is truly important that patients be heard and not pushed drug after drug after drug. Not okay.

This disease is a multi-organ disease which only Endo specialist should be treating and we should have faith in those doctors and those doctors should be pushing the Canadian health care system for change. A gyno delivering a baby at 4am should not be doing a multi organ surgery hours later. Dr. Leyland needs to be making this clear to those who don't understand that. It is a complicated disease and not something that a regular obgyn should be doing.

Stand up for your patients Dr. Leyland they need you.
