Listen to the negative reviews... they are true. They messed up my surgery and tried to cover up. I would never use or recommend Dr Stern or Dr Neubardt

Be very careful. This is serious surgery. It is made to seem simple. It is not. I ended up being diagnosed with a congenital disorder canlled Tethered Cord after my acdf and so the cervical fusion has left me unable to walk. A top neurosurgeon I went to for consult after neubardt surgery sad it was unfortunate, as more study should have been done before neubardt decided to do surgery. Yes, I met Stern, but he was more window dressing. I have what can be characterized a spinal cord injury due to their surgery. I even got Horners syndrome, which is numbness in side of my face and difficulty closing one eye. Specialists I have seen since impress it is imperative to avoid spine surgery if you can. If it is your last hope, make sure if you have a family history of spina bifada occulta, tethered cord or chiari to tell the doctors. Any connective tissue disorder like marfan or ehlers danlos must also be considered. These all will impact the outcome. Do not jump in to this without multiple consults and alternative methods like really good physical therapy. This surgery is dangerous. Know the worst outcome. BTW when I said my face was numb after surgery, neubardt dismissed it and said it was not caused by surgery. Not true, it is not uncommon to have facial nerves impacted, albeit it may be temporary, but it is possible. Get a full review of facial nerves, before. We are all different. Even oral surgeons do review of nerves in you face before surgery.
Neubardt and stern needed to be more thorough pre surgery.
Get a real neurosurgeon to do surgery, a real good one who is doing it. Not an ortho who has neurosurgeon as window dressing.

Terrible Experience with this Doctor. Uncaring, and not professional. Seems to only care about persons that are having surgery. I wasted my time coming for a visit about my Back. The office took too long with giving me information about a test I took. I had to call twice, and was promised he would call me back that day. Once it was 6pm I knew he would'nt call me back, but I called once more at 7:45pm only to get a operator. They don't have a voicemail where you can leave messages. She was actually more caring than the Doctor, and his assistant. If you don't need surgery I guess you are not important as a patient. Shame on them.

Dr. Neubardt and Dr. Stern worked jointly on my herniated and bulging disc surgery. I had been to three doctors previously and was discouraged by the way I was treated and the way they explained my options. Dr. Neubardt and Dr. Stern renewed my faith in the medical system. I never waited more than a few minutes to see them and I never felt rushed during the consultation appointments; they patiently and clearly (never condescendingly) answered every question I had. They also returned my calls personally. I entered surgery with complete confidence. Post-surgery they continued to be available and caring. My surgery was a success, and I would recommend both doctors and their incredibly efficient, warm and helpful staff to anyone I know.

By the time I went to Dr. Neubardt, no one was willing to attempt surgery. After scoliosis surgery in 1978 (8 inch rod fused T1-L3), L5 and S1 had deteriorated. My original Dr. sent me to PT where I collapsed. They said I was a liability and needed surgery asap. My surgeon was unwilling to help after seeing my MRI. He said the only choice was total revision; too dangerous. I began a search for a specialist in flat-back/scoli/degen disc disease. NYU, Columbia Presb, Special Surgery, etc. No one was optimistic. By Sept. I was in a wheelchair. I could only walk a few ft. without falling.I called Brain & Spine Surgeons of NY - in 2 days met with Dr. Neubardt. He suggested fuse L5-S1, install hardware/titanium cage. They consulted with 15 other surgeons in the nation - all suggested complete revision. Dr. Neubardt asked them "If this was YOU having this surgery, what would you choose?" L5,S1 was fused to stabilize my spine in Oct. AND he repaired my flat-back syndrome! "The impossible!"

Excellent surgeon, compasionate person, excellent communication between doctor and patient. Office staff was professional and pleasant. Surgery should be a last resort, but if you have reached that point, I highly recommend Dr. Neubardt.
