Dr. Smit is knowledgeable but I believe he is always overbooked which does not allow for discussion. He seems hurried and thinking about his next patient before the current patient is done.

I am so blown away that Dr. Smit is rated as well as he is on this site, as for one, he lacks decent bedside manner, and for two, he can be quite dismissive, and as a result he has missed several diagnosis that I am aware of. A family member with severe chronic pain was told that her problems were in her head, and he even went so far as to suggest she go see a shrink. When finally after weeks of pleading a simple X-ray was all it took to expose the fact that she had multiple myeloma. I used him as our family doctor for a short period of time, and did not take long to move on. IF you want a doctor who takes you seriously, is thorough, and does not talk down to you, look elsewhere

I think Dr. Smit is great. He listens to what i say and if he doesnt have the answer will find it. He can be forgetful but is only human with a big work load. I find him to be a doctor that likes his patients interactive with their care!

Very helpful. Referred me when he couldn't diagnose the problem. Kept working with me until we had a diagnosis. Took ten years and he never got discouraged or dismissive.

Dr. smit has been our family doctor for over 10 years, we think he is a great doctor, after trying a few others in merritt he is definatley the best one our town has.

When the health issues get TOUGH; get Smit in your corner. He takes the time; and is thorough; not a pill-pusher---he wants to know what caused the problem; not just how to stop the pain etc. But he's a sketchy boat operator; so don't get sick aboard a ship where he is I/C.

Dr. Smit has been my family doctor for over 6 years. He has responded to my questions, discussed issues with me, shown and explained blood test results in detail.
