This is the most genuine surgeon! I’ve been through a lot with my knees and when my orthopaedic doctor retired no referral was made. After being turned down by 7 orthopaedic surgeons in Saskatchewan (bc my knees were too complicated of a case ). My family GP decided pain killers were best .... which they were not!!! When Dr McKerrell received the referral for myself he was more than happy to see me. Process very fast, (considered urgent patient). X-ray is right in his building, then to his office. Most doctor appointments have a full waiting room, not this doctor!! He is so prompt with his appointments. Immediately I was assessed and both knees had degenerated so bad and the osteoarthritis was so severe that total knee replacements are required. Had about 2 week wait for first replacement. With talking to many professionals in wanting to know more about dr mckerrell ...... everyone stated if I needed an orthopaedic surgeon it would definitely be J McKerrell. Calmed my nerves. Nerve block was performed prior too replacement which lasted about 18-20 hrs, pain free until then! When freezing came out, my pain I was having was GONE. Yes I still had some discomfort but absolutely nothing like the pain I went thru for the past 3 years. Both knees have been replaced and still to this day I’m good.
I 100% recommend this doctor I would not be walking today if not for him. Follow his protocol afterwards as it works but you have to be faithful in following it!
Thank you Dr McKerrell 😊

Dr McKerell did my 71 year old mom's bilateral knee surgery which had dire complications. He highly recommended this double option even though she had lung disease and rheumatoid arthritis (as well as osteo). On someone who had breathing problems and an autoimmune disease I was skeptical but he really had my mom convinced it would be best to do both. (Remember he gets paid more for double!) Because of this surgery, she had many major clots in her lungs - I realize this happens sometimes but how he dealt with it was horrible. At first he wouldn't allow the nurses to give her a ct scantily diagnose clots when several days after the surgery she continued to need oxygen (it was obvious in their eyes but he didn't want to involve other doctors which is typical of him apparently). Once I demanded the ct scan and it came back positive for clots, when I called him on the phone about this he told me there was only "one tiny clot" and "worst case scenario she would be walking out the hospital doors Monday morning" he patronizingly laughed. In fact he lied and there were many many clots including some major ones. Because of this major exacerbation to her lung disease she is now on palliative care and on oxygen, unable to walk. She was able to swim, golf, leave the house before this. This surgeron did not get in contact with her rheumatoidologist or family doctor to see if this was the best health decision for someone so compromised. She actually didn't even have any knee pain at all before surgery but the arthritis just showed up on the X-rays. If she knew a common complication of surgery would end up being deadly for someone with lung disease she would not have given consent - she was not properly informed. The nurses since told me he had given over 20 bilateral knee surgeries during the Christmas break $$! Her knees are fine though, he even visited her towards the end of her 5 week hospital stay at City and said "I'm going to give myself a pat on the back, your knees look great". Doctors, please see your patient as a whole person, we have to deal with the consequences.

Dr. McKerrell did a full knee replacement on my right knee ten years ago and other than the scar from that surgery, I forget I have an artificial knee joint there. Now I'm needing a right hip replacement and he has done a couple of injections for the hip bursitis that is also present. Every time I see him, he is pleasant, professional and knowledgeable. Truly, one of the best!

I have been a patient of Dr. McKerrel for many years. I have had quite a number of arthroscopies on my knees. I have had bilateral knee replacement and a right hip replacement. Dr. McKerrell has always been pleasant, punctual and answered all my questions. I would highly recommend Dr. Mckerrell as a surgeon.

I really like this surgeon. He is down to earth, says what is on his mind & doesn't beat around the bush. In the near future when I need hip replacement, I will go to this surgeon!

I have been fortunate to have Dr MCKerrell for two total hip replacements in the past 4 months and I am very pleased with the results to date. Following the 1st surgery I was golfing without discomfort in the surgical hip within 12 weeks. Range of motion is awesome after years of poor mobility. The second hip is only 2 weeks post surgery but coming along well. Terri in the office is very helpful and can talk you through many questions but where she can not assist she has Dr McKerrell respond promptly.
