I saw Dr. Leahey 15 years ago at the age of 12, because I was experiencing almost daily shoulder dislocations, which of course, are very painful. I will never, ever forget that appointment, for all the worst reasons.

It was one of my first times seeing a surgeon for a consult, and I was understandably nervous about it, as I imagine many kids are in similar situations. Upon my arrival (with my parents, of course), his staff were rude, and he was late by at least half an hour. When I finally did get in to see him, he took one look at my scans, roughly swung my shoulder around in a circle without my consent, and said there was nothing that could be done for me surgically.

We asked him if there were non-surgical options he could suggest, like physiotherapy or bracing, and he told us that physiotherapy was "hokum" and that I would just have to - and this is a direct quote - "suck it up, princess". Then he asked us to leave.

I will never forget that moment. There I was, just a kid, in terrible pain everyday and searching for some help, and instead of showing an ounce of compassion when he told me that he couldn't provide that help (which is fine - he's a doctor, not a God, so I understand that he couldn't fix my shoulders!) he chose to be dismissive, rude, and unprofessional. I was a child, and he left me with tears streaming down my face, feeling like nobody would ever be able to help me and I'd be in pain forever. He completely changed how I viewed doctors that day, and I'll never, ever forget it.

Dr lahey performed 4 hip surgeries on my hips. Two were to put pins in when I had falls he was amazing and later my son saw him once after injuring his foot. He explained everything to my parents and sure made me smile and laugh when I was in pain in the hospital. When my son needed to be seen I personally asked for him to see Dr lahey and he actually remembered me and showed me the new equipment they use now to determine dislocation of hips etc...I will always be greatful for the amazing g work Dr lahey did on me!!!

Dr. Leahey performed more than one surgery on my son one being past the age of 16 when the IWK generally stops treating patients. Besides being highly competent and giving my son every chance to walk (which he does now on a slightly limited basis) despite him being severely challenged, he was kind and considerate of his needs and compassionate towards me as a single parent. Fortunately, my son has not required further surgery because Dr. Leahey would be a tough act to follow.

Dr Leahey is an amazing doctor, without him I would not be walking today. I've been a patient of his since I was 3 yrs and even past 18 yrs Dr Leahey took the time to see me and personally recommended another orthopedic surgeon for another surgery. He always was very personable and called to check up on me post surgery. I absolutely highly recommend Dr Leahey and the staff at the IWK Orthopedics, they are life savers and amazing people!

Dr. Leahy is my daughters doctor. He did surgery on both her legs and everything turned out wonderful. He is knowledgable and extremely good with children, frantic mothers and over pertective grandmothers. He made the whole family feel comfortable and I can't express in words how this angel touched all our lives.

Dr. Leahey is my son's doctor and has been since birth, we actually saw Dr. Leahey before he was born and was very helpful to us then, and now continues to be very helpful, he did surgery on my son when he was 4 months old, he explained everything to us in detail and answered every question we had no matter how dumb it seemed to us. made us feel very easy(as easy as can be)when our son went into surgery. We have been to his clinic may times as we were going weekly after my baby was born, and was on time almost everytime, some times we even got in before our appointment time! would highly recommend Dr. Leahey to anyone in need of ortho care for their child! much thanks Dr. Leahey!

Dr. Leahy, is simply the best. There's just no other way to describe him. I was one of his first pacients as an infant. I'm now 24, and can still check in with him when needed. He's always answered all my questions, both mine and my parents. My parents love him as well. He has made huge health changes in my life for me. He gets two thumbs up. Thanks for all you've done. You've changed my life.
