This is my second time seeing Dr. Hurst. Very knowledge, on time with appts, asks to make sure I don’t have any questions or concerns before I leave and is very informative of what I should watch for and come back for . 5 stars easy!

Dr. L. Hurst was so kind and knowledgeable. He fit me in after hours as an emergency because of a terrible reaction. He then told me what to avoid to calm the reaction and even made a phone call to set me up with an allergist to hopefully resolve the issue quickly. My skin was in such bad condition that he offered to write a note to excuse me from work. Although I decided against it, he said to call if it became too much to continue on. After many visits to different dr.'s. I felt heard, and some relief was found. Highly recommend.

I was very pleased with my visit. This was to be a follow up on a skin issue I had awhile back that he previously looked at. When I came in today he reassessed and reassured me, removed it and quickly sent it in. He was direct, professional, efficient and I appreciated his approach. He was also kind in his delivery.

Today I had an appointment with Dr. Hurst. I was very happy with my visit. Staff was very professional and I had absolutely no wait time. Dr. Hurst greeted me as he entered the room and wasted no time diagnosing what my condition was, what caused it, and what treatment I needed. He used dictation to record his findings and the course of treatment moving forward, and made a copy for me to take home , which I think is brilliant. No time was wasted typing - his dictation was a full explanation to me and he answered any questions I had at the same time. All of the medical terminology is on the paper that I can now reference at home, if I feel the need to. I felt he was kind and caring and am happy I was referred to his office. Thank you!

I was referred to Dr. Hurst several years ago and have been treated for sun damaged skin. 5 years ago he diagnosed and surgically removed a cancerous area of skin . I have found Dr. Hurst to be knowledgable and direct in his manner, answering any questions that I have out to him. I very much appreciate that he accurately recalls previous visits and treatments so that we can continue on a positive course of care for any current or new issues.

Dr Hurst and his student were friendly, professional and efficient. They made a quick diagnosis and reinforced my proactive concern. Answered my questions in plain language and treated me immediately. Dr Hurst then took the time to answer my questions about prevention in an unhurried and informative way. I’m grateful for his care.

Not sure what to think after my recent visit and reading the reviews. Yes, the receptionist seemed curt and close to rude. When I was called in I was asked to sit in the middle of the room on a black chair at least 3 meters away. He then said he knew right away what the sore under my eye was even though he never looked at it closely or under a light. He then asked me to take off my top and circled around me from a distance looking at my upper chest and arms. Not sure why I had to sit there exposing myself like that but I read another review here about someone who had a skin condition on her leg and he asked her to expose her breasts. Felt strange. Asked my profession—what does that have to do with my skin? Then the dictation into the computer, saving time I guess although I did appreciate receiving the copy. The whole event made me feel like I was on a factory assembly line. Very cold and clinical.

Very knowledgeable - yes!
Superb bedside manner - nope!
Talks quickly and gets you in and out- yes!
He mentioned he has a patient list of 30 000 and is one of the very few skin cancer specialists in MB. He’s a busy doctor! I’ll allow it. But I’ll tell you this… I’ve seen a ton of doctors for various issues in my life span (acute and chronic) and I know an intelligent doctor when I visit one. I had a suspicious mole. Went to a gp, who said, “I wouldn’t worry about it.” I insisted on a biopsy. My clinic’s surgeon also tried to talk me out of a biopsy once referred - despite my mole hitting almost all of the “suspicious” criteria. I insisted. Path report comes back, I’m called to the clinic. My gp tells me “I don’t know why you were called here and all is good.” I ask to see my path report, and all I can see is the word MALIGNANT. I had stage 0, but still malignant. Dr. Hurst could tell me upon wide-excision that he got it all. He even called me two weeks later to go over new pathology report and confirmed there would be no spread. The exact same thing happened to someone close to me (was told by two gps their mole looked fine and they insisted on a biopsy to find out they indeed had melanoma). Moral of the story- don’t trust GP’s to identify cancerous moles- they clearly don’t know anything more than the general population. Although Dr. Hurst can be abrupt and dictate during your appointment on his device, he knows cancer. I’d much rather see him than a doctor who’s far less knowledgeable. From my experience, Manitoba has at least 4 that can’t tell a melanoma from a piece of dirt.

In my visit with Dr. Hurst, he didn’t even look at the rash and problems I was having with my skin. Told me to continue to use the cream my regular doctor had prescribed for two more weeks. I guess the months and months of using the cream to no avail before that was discounted. I sat on a stool in the middle of the room, while he sat at his desk and did not examine me. He dictated a letter to my doctor while I sat there and watched. My visit was a complete waste of time, as I got no answers from the “specialist” I had waited months to see. I guess as long as he gets his billable hours in, he doesn’t really care.
