Dr Wilson has been my family doc since I was a kid. She is super friendly, she always asks relevant questions, explains her diagnosis, treatment options, and potential causes for the issue as well, and looks at the whole picture. She always takes time to answer any questions I have. She is very knowledgeable. I appreciate that she also looks at the whole picture- ie lifestyle/ diet/ exercise. She has followed up with me for reports from specialists and ER visits as well (the clinic notifies me to book appt so she can go over results). She's always helped navigate my health concerns and everything has always been resolved from her advice/ prescriptions she's written. The clinic staff are super helpful as well.

Please consider that this is a very busy clinic- appointments are fast and concise. You will have to present your concerns concisely and bring up key points in a straightforward manner. Be prepared with relevant questions beforehand and what pharmacy you'd want to pick up from. Also if you call, expect to be on hold for a bit. They are doing their best to see everyone they can and accommodate many, many patients with limited time and staff.

I do not usually write reviews , but as a primary care provider myself I have to say I was shocked at the horrendous phone appointment I had today with this family doctor. I was booked as a 'walk in' phone consult. She did not ask one related question about the reason for my call (which was actually a straightforward concern) was dismissive and unhelpful, and essentially hung up on me. I checked on my phone and the duration of the call was 3 minutes! A waste of the effort to book and be available for this appointment. I feel sorry for others who undoubtedly will have the same experience.

I am not that person that leave bad reviews especially to doctors for I work in healthcare. But I believe this should be addressed and people should be aware. I booked a phone consult like any other patient desperately looking for a "walk in" clinic who does not have a family doctor. She was the one who is in that day to do phone consult., just for the record, I did not chose her. When I addressed my concern to her the first thing she said " this is something you should talk to your family doctor", First of all, I DO NOT have a family doctor, and have been on the waitlist in Northshorelink. And she even said that she cannot follow up on me because she has her own patients to deal with. She said she will send thru my email the requisition and just bring it with me wherever I want to do it, and does not want her name to be in it, and guess what, no requisition sent to my email( i did checked my spam to make sure). I did not follow up because it is useless to follow up, it was upsetting because she billed something that she did not do. That is what patient care to her.

pretty much a waste of time - pretty obvious not really interested in 'helping' in that asked very minimal questions about the issue I was having - more interested in doing the call and charging the system.

Have had to deal with this doctor a few times at walk-in clinic. Very dismissive. Doesn't listen. I called for a referral for something I felt was serious. My own doctor has retired and the not-yet-open new clinic was advising all waitlisted patients to use walk-in clinics for things like referrals. I got a lecture about wasting her time and mis-using the walk-in clinic rather than any help. I felt like I had to beg for her to actually pay attention and give me a simple referral.

GAVE TWO INCORRECT PIECES OF INFORMATION:

1) First, I asked her to refer me to a community mental health service centre from which I had already received services years ago and have a file. She wrongfully said that walk-in clinic doctors could not provide references; only a family doctor can. THIS IS INCORRECT. Walk-in clinic doctors can refer you to publically funded mental health services.

2) She told me to add myself to the North Shore Division of Family Practice waitlist to find a family doctor. When I told her I'd been on the list for over two years already, she said they had scratched it and started a whole new system early this month (February 2023). So when I added myself to the list (again), the North Shore Division of Family Practice reached out to me to let me know their system has not changed and I did not need to add myself to the waitlist for a second time lol.

I want to note that I reached out for her help to receive treatment for bipolar depression. I expected her to, at the very least, ask if I was a danger to myself or others, but she did not. I am giving her 2 starts for Helpfulness instead of 0 because she provided the names of a few (out-of-pocket) mental health service options. Otherwise, the 3 minutes I had with her were rushed. She barely let me speak. After saying "hello," the first thing she said was, " I cannot help you." However, I arranged another appointment with a different doctor at the same walk-in clinic and boy, was I treated differently! I got my referral, and he asked for my history with a lot of compassion and checked in with me to see if I was a danger to myself or others.

Dr. Cara Wilson-Haffenden delivered me as a baby and has been my family doctor ever since (going on 28 years). While she is very busy and visits do tend to be brief (everyone knows doctors are understaffed in BC and so have little time for small talk), she has always been very kind and nothing short of diligent. She has helped me navigate any and all medical problems / injuries with no issue.

I am shocked by some of the reviews below as I have never had a bad or rude experience with her. She has changed up my prescriptions when there weren't working for me; booked me in for check-ups as needed; and always been very accommodating to my symptoms, feelings and experiences. Happy to have her as my family doctor!

I never thought to check the reviews of Dr. W-F after she tossed my aside and told me to find another doctor. I had a car accident and then developed FM. She said she didn't believe in FM and to find another doctor. She was so cold all the while I was in such pain. I feel validated when I see so many bad reviews. This happened about 8 years ago. Bed side manner should be number one in a good GP.

She just doesn't care. I had her for a phone appointment. She didn't send me for a blood/urine test. She immediately concluded my symptoms were due to my medication even though those symptoms are not listed. Seems like she just couldn't wait to get the "appointment" over with. Definitely do not recommend her.
